My experience with the Turbo was that parts never get cheaper so it's a matter of getting in quick for specialist items.
I love the FUD in the ad too "The 964 spring plates are beginning to fail now..."

Could always go to this extreme

Macca, transmission mounts for the 964 are also getting up there. $390 for the C4 and $530 for the C2. The more I buy the more I realise that Lola was a bargain with the suspension work done on her. To get a rebased 964 I think $100,000 would be a ball park I.e. To take Mark's new to him C2 through engine, gearbox, paint and suspension work would end up with a $100,000 car.
Definitely agree John. If you look at paint as part of the remit no way you could I a reasonable km C4 today for 45-50k and not end up spending 100k to get it where I'd be happy with it. It's only going to get more expensive with time which is as I say why Paul's 993 is such good value just had 20k large on it with paint, wheels and calipers to high standard plus 15k on suspension. It's a proven performer and for 85k would take a ropey 75k base car and cost 115k to replicate not to mention the down time. This is why kiwi enthusiast should be paying healthy money for a really nice example or just approach the owners of the best known cars with overs as they can get on and enjoy it instead of loosing 1-2 years of their life. But kiwis are cheap aye! So glad I rebates mine in 2011/12 and then went the whole hog in 2012-2014 as I couldn't afford to do all that again in say 5 years time with all the one off parts and carbon from Europe etc. Tomas wasn't far off when he offered to buy the car last year but was probably 3 years ahead of himself :-) (plus she would need a new kick of paint first to make her perfect). Simple issue I see is non of us is rich so once you spend your 100-110 making your 64 good are you really prepared to roll bowl and ******* her? Right now I am and will be for a few years yet but there will be a time when the keys get hung up and all this BS price appreciation sh*t finally gets me down. It's the worse thing ever happened to my "hobby" in the 15 years I've been active IMO and dominates far too much bandwidth and kills the fun we are having. Look at NITT/SITT 2013/2014 - you will never see so many 964/993 out there pushed hard collectively again. Becomes a collector sport soon...winge over...

That is extreme, and very talented but we have our own hidden talents in the RSG. Guess who did this

Looks like a 3D printed valve cover from Camo Man?

17 Water cooled vs 5 aircooled. NITT 20020 will be 90% water my guess. Next wave will be 996 C2 modified for track use.

Most Kiwis are cheap, because most of us don't have the income to blow big money on toys. That plus we haven't had the experience to know that you pay the real price sooner or later if you want a fully sorted car. That said, it's still possible to buy these cars in aged condition and drive them 7/10ths for years with no issues or major costs so there is an option for all wallets.

As for driving, I'm impressed at the build quality of the 964 and will have no problem driving it at the track and on road trips for many years to come. The confidence comes from rebasing the car so it's near new in maintenance condition.

Yes, that's the man and its people like him that will keep these cars relatively affordable to keep on the road.

8 Aircooled and could be 9 depending on some choices still to be made...

Still a fair group of the RSG not attending but who come to HD also have aircooled. The 964s especially like to get out on track and I don't see them retiring to the garage any time soon - this bubble will be over soon enough.

That's only the 'initial fit' design as there are considerations with required billet size and valve clearance, which will be easy to see this way when I test fit it to Herman upon returning home.

Bollocks - the Aussies I have been liaising with who have experience of TR's and 221's say 221's are a second quicker. Unfortunately they don't have 214's to do further comparison.

Don't be worrying about me Macca – my “street cred” is in intact and I'm on pace for my car, if you are only doing mid 14's in your car at HD, it would be most embarrassing indeed to be slower than an older model Cayman R

So what's your excuse???

Any of you signed up for the tech preview at EMD/Giltrap tonight? Hoping someone is willing to turn the key of the 918.

Paul. You forget I'm subscribed to your chat forum on that Aussie board and last time I looked no one over there has run Trofeo R on a 996 GT3 against z221.

My first drive in the GT3 (one session only) was my second ever visit to that track July last year 1.14.01 and a few laps a tenth or two slower. All data screen shots and traces been posted on here previously. Im happy with that as I haven't 3000 laps like you to practice and I'm clearly not as naturally a talented driver as you are mate :-(. The car is good for 12s on the MPSC2 and maybe a second quicker with Trofeo R or z221 (if the fitments were available). I think I've slowed down in 2015, definitely more cautious since returning from Vanuatu after March. I think it's probably time you stepped up to a race car?

John. That's the spirit! I need someone to play with once the 993 is reinstated. Good to see someone else prepared to "prototype" too :-)
