Macca, I love Singers, but think there is too much BS over performance stat's. It only has 400-ish HP. That R&T report reckons are a 1,250KG Singer with 390HP will acceleratate to 100KPH in 3.3 sec's, that's like 1 sec quicker than a 996 GT3 RS with same HP, or half a sec quicker than a 997 4.0 RS with launch assist on, or as fast at the 612HP 997 GT2 RS Seriously, I doubt a Singer is as quick as a 997 GT2 RS?? I stand to be corrected - but other Porsches with similar power/weight ratio's are about 1 sec slower - so seem's total bollocks to me. But then I have never driven a Singer and may be some special power/ wieght, physic's defying sauce they put in the cars (like NOS??)
To be honest I call abS too. frankly there are not many Supercars can manage under 3.9s with manual transmission on the market today. 3.3 is possible if it were PDK but not for a manual. On the track however it could punch above its weight as its light and has good torque for a NA flat6...
I still like them but not when you can buy a genuine 964RS a new GT3 and GT4 all for the same money!

They sure did walt only a few weeks back they put a Tudor series driver Leh Keen into a customers new singer and it writes up very well indeed...

Nice figures indeed. Even in a straight line, that light weight helps it off the line to beat mine to 60mph (though she does take revenge on it, killing it in the 30-130mph and then leaving it for dust up high). On track, between that lightness and a team of experts setting up the suspension for the particular track, I'm sure it would rule the infield!

I believe the GT2 RS is traction limited, not HP limited on its standard tyres when comes to launching for a 0-60mph. This Singer is on warmed up Autocross tyres with experts on hand to tune the suspension for drag racing:

Even my so called AWD car is traction limited on cold street tyres as it spun them up not only at launch but also the shifts when timed to 130.
Magazines are also happy to launch manuals by sidestepping the clutch at 5500rpm or whatever gets the best times. Car and Driver reports the second best launch of five attempts I think. R&T maybe pick the best?

It's not apples to apples Paul. On the same tyres, with street suspension settings, no it shouldn't. This is why you won't see many current or recent manual Supercars put in a 3.3s sprint. It's the one area automated boxes with launch control etc have a huge advantage over the average humans foot and clutch pedal/gear shift. To get that Singer pedalling with a 6 speed G50 993 box to 130 mph would have meant 3 shifts not to mention how brutal it would have been to get to 60 in 3.3 (even though it's scarcely believe able).
For comparison here's a 2400lb 425HP prototype Singer with quoted specs of 3.9 sec 0-60mph, 8.5 sec 0-100mph.
http://cartype.com/pages/4325/singer...type_911__2010
• 425 BHP / 340 lb. ft. torque
• 0-60 mph – 3.9 seconds
• 0-100 mph – 8.5 seconds
• Top speed 170+ mph
The same specs for the 2743lb, 390HP car in the R&T article (http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...ned-by-singer/) :
• 390 BHP / 315 lb. ft. torque
• 0-60 mph – 3.3 seconds
• 0-100 mph – 8.2 seconds
• Top speed 176 mph
On the face of it, with similar tyres, it just wouldn't make sense. I'm picking a transcription mistake (3.8 - or 3.5 at best - scribbled down then read as 3.3?) or several of the following:
Race tyres
Super high friction road surface (a .3 sec 1 foot rollout is a good launch)
Race fuel
Special tune
Drag suspension settings
Deleted cat baffles
Massive tailwind
Crazy GTR quality electronic launch control (but with a manual??)
and the aforementioned high revs launch.

Hopefully not. I think Walter is just filling in time until the 800.
Anyone else going to the racing today? I will be there early to fit the new rear caliper and ventilation fan to the Grinch. I will need to co-opt someone to help me bleed the caliper so don't be strangers.....

The Singer Targa looks great. I'd own one in a heartbeat.
I'm still without my car (waiting on a hose ex Germany), starting to get withdrawals...
