Funny you should say that - just talking with Marco and he had no idea of your predicament and the fact that his misfortune would probably set you back another month or two.... Beautiful weekend in Taupo - fitting end to the season. Seriously, we need another 4-5+ 944s on the grid - it is the most fun you can have. Time to get sorted for next season - no excuses. The last race was a bit unfortunate - one of the front runners stalled so Marco ended up in the rear of another car - and came off second best - front of 944 vs chassis rail of GT3... No fault, just a shame. Brent G is fast in his first drive of the 997.2 cup car - he's driving really well - one to watch next season. Ian has had a good weekend so far - and Kev is back smiling after a new windscreen - we still don't know who was responsible for the pins... Lots more RSG interest - we must be doing something right when the racers are asking to join. Have another starter for the SI tour - getting closer to 20 there.

Paul, Matt, Sam - a starter car http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/spec...-867865709.htm
You are correct - it is a 'starter' car in that you pay around $20K for it, and then 'start' spending another $15K to do a mild sort and buy a cheap trailer, you then decide you don't want to be at the back of the grid and want to mix-it with Chris B in the middle of the 44's, so 'start' spending another $15K lightening and 'dialing in'..................
Spend another $15K for the first season of racing in consumables and accommodation, and that 'starter' 44 starts owing you $65K............and you start to think for another $10K I could have had a 996 Cup Car??
And then you have an accident at the race start, and start forking out another $10K in panel damage (I suggest you stop at lending your 44 to others, coz we don't want to add these costs - sorry Mike), as the cost of ownership is heading towards a hundie............and you start drinking..........
Then you start to realise you only live once and should start spending it before you are too old..............

Ain't that the truth. I was reading up on Cayman race cars. They said that there is a reason people start with near new Rs. I'm not there budget wise which is why I'm doing 2k Cup.
If you get that GT3 you can semi race anyway at RSG days with the front pack and come home with a straight car (most of the time), which is possibly why ex racers and some current ones are joining us.

The trick is to be gentle on the kit (i.e. 8.5 tenths and not 10/10ths like a race car)
Funny how things come full circle.
Just need to find a GT3 now...............

You limit the cost to consumables (and a paint job after a few years) and a $5K excess if you crash........... The trick is to be gentle on the kit (i.e. 8.5 tenths and not 10/10ths like a race car) Funny how things come full circle. Just need to find a GT3 now...............
I wouldn't bank on the track insurance cover lasting forever as is and Steve has already voiced concern over RSG morphing into a defacto racing group for some so that may require changes to accommodate all or limit some behaviours.

its not proportionately that much slower as tyres and brakes can be regarded as consumable, so use them as hard as you like. The main big costs are in gearbox and engine rebuild. So Rev it 500/600 short of redline, and use second gear sparingly. Syncro on 2nd is nearly always first to go. Otherwise drive it as hard as you like....
