Perfect ride height on the 993 Simon, I'm guessing RS + 10mm?

997.2. You can tell by the arch extensions on the front.

It's a great mile eater, rides really well on un even roads and obviously savage for overtaking. No cup holders the only gripe but being a tip it's not a huge issue.

Criminally cheap for what the car offers.
Cup holder above the cd stacker in mine. Push/ click..
Yes funny how other road users can take umbrage at Porsche
Pass them in the Hyundai and no issue.. Dave has yet to experience that surreal moment

That's a stunning car. Hopefully it will look a lot more used very soon

yes -stunning car.

I understand there are a few of these quietly for sale as their current owners trade out ready to take delivery of their 991RS.

Yes I believe there may be a couple, 991s aren't all that though, manual and the Metzger is the way to go.

993 is sounding good Spokes, looks like good times in the SI.

There is only a couple while the masses trade out to the next shape.

Wait a few years and they will be as easy to find as rocking horse sh*t, just like the 996 version at the moment.

You are correct - it is a 'starter' car in that you pay around $20K for it, and then 'start' spending another $15K to do a mild sort and buy a cheap trailer, you then decide you don't want to be at the back of the grid and want to mix-it with Chris B in the middle of the 44's, so 'start' spending another $15K lightening and 'dialing in'..................

Spend another $15K for the first season of racing in consumables and accommodation, and that 'starter' 44 starts owing you $65K............and you start to think for another $10K I could have had a 996 Cup Car??

And then you have an accident at the race start, and start forking out another $10K in panel damage (I suggest you stop at lending your 44 to others, coz we don't want to add these costs - sorry Mike), as the cost of ownership is heading towards a hundie............and you start drinking..........

Then you start to realise you only live once and should start spending it before you are too old..............
Nice sales pitch for the racing series Paul...

There are plenty of reasonably well sorted cars currently for sale - some with trailers and the 'lightening and dialing in' largely done. The consumables cost is higher than doing trackdays but then at least some of that is overlap as when you're racing you won't do as many track days.

Panel damage can happen on regular track days as well - not always insured, and even when so there's a chunky excess.

As for accommodation away, well there's Labour weekend and Easter at Taupo - so treat those as weekends away with the family (the Porsche family that is!) Its all about choices and what you want to spend your $ on.

I agree that you need to go in eyes wide open - but the reality doesn't need to as costly as the worst case scenario. Dip your toe in the water, do a few Auckland based rounds (or elsewhere if that's where you're based), get a feel for it - no one goes out to win the championship in the first year or so. Soak up the knowledge and experience from others - as its freely given. Only then when you're hooked do hand over your cheque book

Pete, talking of racing, it looks like half the field had DNS in the last race yesterday. What happened?

Finally took the time to catch up on P car talk. Great to see a few out for weekend runs, look forward to being back so I can join in.

Currently poolside in Port Douglas at a friends week long wedding celebration. Beautiful spot, although makes you appreciate the fact that nature isn't out to kill you back at home; would love to be able to freely swim in the ocean without fear of death!

Did talk to Kev about the options, that black one was never very competitive and would take a bit to dial in, I can think of nothing worse than buying something like that and having to spend the time replacing bits to get it running well. Black is a good starter for some john player livery though! And the gt3 brakes must be awesome.
