Are you sure? I have no record of another silver car in NZ. Did you get a pic or number plate?

I have just been in the garage chasing engine and transmission numbers. It's like a treasure hunt, each confirmed point of originality adding to the story. Hasler confirms no corrosion or accident damage. Recolour "done to a very high standard". Optïons conform to original build sheet. Interior is close to perfect. Full leather, no rips, tears, stains. Compression test on Friday is likely the final hurdle, then she ships to the UK. Oops, jinxed it yet again.

If it stays in my ownership the wheels are off to be re-lacquered and calipers repainted. The rest of it is in great shape.

Part of me wants a near new car, but I can't do $140k and keep Herman. Plus I start the merry go round of not driving to preserve value. Find me a 996.1 minter or a mid used 997 for circa $120k and we're starting to talk. Anyway, all dream stuff until I sell the Turbo 3.6.

I'm a big fan of GT3's having owned 4 (2 at present). I think the 996.1 will be good in the long run as it was produced in the Motorsport factory as opposed to the normal production line. It's also the first GT3 and built in relatively small numbers.

In saying that the 997.1 RS is simply devine, and with the exception of the 4.0 is my pick for a track car.

Its a good plan John. I like it. Do the business first then enjoy window shopping a while. Its the best bit after the driving...

There are not enough public sales in the UK, but if you look on the Aussie sites there are several of each for sale and the 6.2's are more expensive? This would suggest more desirable.

No right or wrong answer - just interested in your views as to why least desirable?

In another 10 years’ time my pick is the 7.1 and 991 as the least desirable.
The 996 isnt as pretty as the the 997 for starters. I personally prefer the looks of the 996.1 GT3 over the 996.2 GT3.
As Matt says the 996.1 GT3 was made by the motorsport division and more importantly its the original GT3. The 996.1 GT3 is also rarer.

But then you have the 996.2 GT3 RS, the original GT3 RS, and possibly the most hardcore?

It's all personal taste - but the 996 has improved to my eyes over time and I now think is the more pure shape (over the 997).

I think they have aged well..........

Looking that way. I'll channel my inner yuppie. Last bottle of Dom I had was in 1987 at a restaurant in Tinakori Rd. Le Beauchamp or Tinakori Rd Bistro (not sure).

I generally agree with this and its what the UK magazines also state as the driver behind 996.1 GT3 appreciation. But you touch on an important point right now 996.2 GT3RS prices are the highest of all modern GT cars excluding the 4.0 (although made in similar numbers). Anyone who has driven in those like myself and Jamie will know they are bone rattlers on the road but the market has decided that's really the only PURE RS in the lineage of the 2.7/964/993-RS and prices have risen vertically in the UK (I dont believe the car was sold in the USA which is always the making of an even greater appreciating GT car - like the 996.1 as it was not sold in NA either).

We are so lucky in NZ right now that the market is not following the global trend. Not a single car has sold at the current elevated headline prices (save perhaps Johns but that will go to a UK party via an existing personal relationship). This means more time that we can drive and enjoy these cars on road and track without getting concerned about collect-ability and residuals. And it keeps the annual insurance down!

Not through lack of trying Macca, there are plenty of long hoods and Turbo's with big doe on them for sale at the moment - we are just a small country with literally a handful of Pcar nuts with lots of money..........

The Silver 64 Turbo at Motorscience is a 3.3 badged as a 3.6, Pete no doubt told you some history. Sounds like you are on the hunt Jake....

Too much Porsche talk. Let's go bug eyes for at least one post.

Next 2k cup race day is 28/2 in Taupo. It looks like we can get BB complied giving three cars. BB would be an option for a ride for those who co-own her and have race licences. Sounds like a minor NITT in the offing. We could take a road trip down as well in the P cars. Think about it.

That is sad. The 3.3 is a great car in its own right. There's no need to misrepresent it. That reminds me that I need some new sill plates for Herman. He is not a Carrera RS.

Paul, ideally would be a 997.1. Budget would be dictated by sell price of Turbo, which is hard to estimate given interesting history. As an aside, anyone interested in a set of OEM 997 Turbo wheels (and tyres) before I list them on trademe?

Pretty sure, but I've been wrong before. Phone was flat otherwise I would have taken a photo. Had Techart wheels, looked like 18". Reflector strip was cracked in the center and washer nozzles were broken. Paint looked original in that it wasn't in great condition. I didn't pour over it; Peter was doing me a favour by giving me access to his hoist (CCS too busy...), so didn't want to take up too much of his time. I did talk about the different personalities between the old and new turbos in the context of that car, but maybe it was a castle made of sand and was actually a 3.3

Edit, just saw Pel's post. Peter didn't talk to it in detail, and missed that key point!

Interesting all this GT3 talk, I've just been reading in Evo #200 about their overall best car from the 16 years they've been going: GT3 RS 3.8.

John you're not really going to use a GT3 as a DD right? Your left leg will get a good workout
