I kinda hope it sells within a week as we will be in awe......(and turn into instant bonnet polishers - too afraid to use our cars)

RHD and NZ new does add a LOT of value (you are talking only a handful of NZ new Porsches back then - 5 or 6 a year) - it's just finding the buyer who sees the value over similar value Pcar alternatives........

Another way of looking at the equation is would pay $139K for the black targa at CCS with non-original box and colour - starting life as an orange sportmatic (which significantly hurts investment value) or $125K for an orange coupe with manual box. Both are Sunday driver - bonnet polishing cars that are slow by today’s standards.

The market has spoken on the black targa (it's still for sale.............)

Both cars side by side - I'd probably take the 912 due to coupe, original box and easier colour to keep clean.

Personally for a Sunday shiner - I'd prefer a 356 @ $100K - but that is just me............

Maybe Ian is on the money........??

Dave - looks like you are not going to be losing money on your car anytime soon (do you still have the original engine and box?)
I asked Dan about the 2.2 motor and he said it wasn't original so I left it at that. What I will do over summer is catch up with the most recent owner in Tauranga who has the extensive history file from 18 years of off and on ownership and the Original pink slip which might state the engine and box numbers. I will at some point get a COA from PCNA to round out the history. See what happens from there. He said the motor was OK but leaked and that the box still had some work to be done on it.

NZ doesn't have enough wealthy collectors to handle volume even if the 912 is on the market the market is now essentially flooded with 2 x 6 figure long hoods for sale. If two PCNZ collectors we all know popped their clogs and their estate put all their cars on the NZ market within a 24 month time-frame of one another it would be a flooded market! Most club enthusiasts arent rich just comfortably middle class. Most enthusiasts in NZ full into the same box.

As a demonstration of that Id wager almost none of the PCNZers with larger collections of 356/911 long hoods could write a cheque for the value of their collection today if it were auctioned in the UK. All of them bough these cars years ago when they were much less valued.

IMO the market for these cars is UK. If I had 5-6 desirable long hoods I would right now be looking to ship them to an auction house in the UK, pay the premium and the marketing and make sure thye had a slot at one of the 2-3 annual sales that attract high stake bidders (think Goodwood). Christies and RPM would be a good start.

NZ providence, RHD etc isnt going to affect the UK/European bidders price much. Providence (ownership records and service records) matching number and originality will be the key data points for the big stakes.

As much as we would like it to be otherwise NZ if not the market to sell anything much rare or increasingly sought after like a vintage 911. An All Black jersey from 1929 perhaps but we dont have many mining or transport magnates like our neighbours with large collections to feed.

All IMO naturally!

Don't forget the 911L that's been sitting there for a month or three: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-805876543.htm

Agree that the pricing on those three is reflective of the international and not local market. If I was in the seller's situation, I would probably price the same, but have them advertised in at least the UK and the USA on the main sites used by those hunting out these cars, otherwise they'll find that they're still sitting there in x months time, with nothing generated but pages of conversation by local enthusiasts with limited disposable income.

Oh. I missed that one. Good old Barny aye! That car will be ex Japan and possibly even very difficult to register on the road here!

Im not sure what I would do if I had a single car but if I had a collection of 2-3 or more I was liquidating I would send them to the Uk at my own cost and have them marketed there by a specialist dealer or auction house. Many people have advertised their NZ cars in the UK that I know ofver the years and very few had any success. UK buyers want to beable to see and walk around the car if they are going to lay out top dollar for it. Unfortunately we arent a 50 quid flight away in Europe. Most wealthy collectors cant make the time.

Chris's old car for sale:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-803114369.htm

This is a bargain - NZ new, manual, C2 under 100km's, sports seats - high spec - all for early 30's.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-803106489.htm

My pick is 996's will become cool and collectable soon. Now is the time to get in early.........

Tempting if you could be sure that the engine won't explode.
I thought the same of 964's for years until they had all been sorted in good time.
I wonder if 996's reach a point age and mileage wise where if it was going to explode, it would have done so by now?

75-85K. That said it wouldnt get my money. So many great cars to own and so little time, Id probably spend my 85K trying something like a 996 GT2, Cayman R or 996 GT3.

2.5 Boxsters are almost 2K cup car money. They have been turned into an entry point race series in UK by PCGB.

More comparable 60's performance here of course:

Handily quicker to 100, bit lower top speed. You could have one for each day of the working week and still have change...
If you are seriously interested in a Camaro my mate had this one in the US he is bringing back (along with a Chevy amongst other toys) for around $35k NZD landed from memory. He reckons complied it would be worth around $50k here.

Either a Firebird or Camaro will be my next purchase when funds allow it.
