Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?
Thanks mate. Really just a heads up for others on here to plan way ahead when anticipating tyres for 17/18 fitments. When you go looking in UK & USA you realise how spoilt they are due to population when you see the range, fitments and availability not to mention they pay roughly 35% less than we do in NZ.
The road tyre purchase was just a lot of wasted time and in the end I ended up with the most expensive option when I had generously budgeted $1400 for a pair of rear 275s which I had not questioned would be available in local dealer inventory.
For me like many others on here tyres are just an unfortunate consumerable and the consequence of enjoying our cars the way they were intended - fast & furious! For the road the RS3 or similar rated Asian rubber is a perfect compromise for the lower $$$.
But what next for track rubber? With Z221 R18 inventory on the wane looking unlikely to be replenished there looks like a serious absence of local contenders. Let's hope the R888R makes it here in 2016 with decent fitments range...

Three Wheelin'
Running Bridgestone Potenza RE003, 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear, $1400 fitted in November. Like them as a road tyre. Better steering feel on-centre than the old RE002.

Looks like we are all holding some spares!
Hey Walt, thanks for the offer. I've bitten the bullet now. Hopefully it's not a problem I need to contemplate again for a year or two now. However, I'll be surprised if the situation has improved by then so will need to start shopping 3 months out!
Ponto. The PS2 was my favourite road tyre before they launched the PSS. If you like the PS2 then you'll love the PSS. But probably best not to try them as I suspect you'll run into similar problems. If you can get the RS3 in the new 2014+ compound in your size then great. From what I was told supply doesn't look good currently for RS3 and I suspect they had only the prior 2014 stock in inventory. Be interesting to know how you get on. 17" fitment might be different...

In 2012-13 I ran through a set of RE11 on targa, road and track. They pretended hard to be both a light track and fast road tyre but IMO failed at both being heavy, noisey and not particularly sharp turn in.
I've read good things about there later tyres including RE003 and S04. Paul used to rave about his RE050 track tyres. One thing about the Japanese rubber is that it's very reasonably priced. I might try it again next time....
I think I've had 5.5 different sets of road tyres (S01, Pierreli Pzero, PS2, rE11 X 1.5, MPSS), on the 993 over 60,000 km and 16 years. The only set I didn't run to the end were the Pierrelis- took them off after 5000km as I didn't like them. so far the MPSS were my favourite but come at a cost that I don't think is justified given I end up smearing them all over the road in less than 10,000 km.
If we could all put together an annual order we could order them from tirerack, have then ground shipped to west coast and then have then consolidated by container to NZ. If they were $80 USD a set freight it would translate to 20-25% savings over best NZ price (magnifying effects of GST would be less on a $80 USD vs $380 USD freight charge) with more range and fitments available. Not sure it would be hard. Two cut offs a year - mid year or end of year, get some for the family 4x4 while your at it - everyone use same address then pay only for cubic container space. Not like you can break them? RSG could organise an annual "tyre run" for members so we could try out some exotic track rubber. With 65 members I'm sure we'd get some interest. Maybe worth someone organising. Best not look at me I just spent 10k on three sets Michelins last 6 months cough cough!!

Warwick, he came to the storage unit on a Vespa, so I don't think he's a Ford man. I do however see why he went for a sale ad in the first place, as it appears he's struggling with the auction sale process.

I'm getting two valuations done on my two. SC is easy to predict, T not so.
Not that it will be relavent to the value of the silver 964 but you could draw some conclusions between it and the SC as a minimum entry level to old style 911's.

Regardless he still stands to pocket $15k more at the current reserve than at his originally listed price even if he looks like a bit of a chump.... so as long as the sale goes through I doubt he'll be too upset. The buyer... well that remains to be seen. There's no way I'd pay $50k for C4 964 in that condition... a C2 maybe?
