Ok. I have just heard back from the supplier of the Esco stands.

He misquoted the original landed price of $NZ75 incl gst per stand. Their shelf price will be higher than that so the discounted indent price they are offering is only $NZ71.30 incl gst per stand. Not as good as I am sure we were hoping. Delivery will be 9 weeks from date of ordering.

If that doesn't sound like its worth perusing let me know and I understand. However, if you really want a set and can wait, its got to be a better deal than personally importing a set, Marsden Rowing Club container notwithstanding

Please confirm ASAP as this needs to be settled by COB tomorrow.

That is the deal of the century. Great work, if a bit late for me. Anyone lurking who wants to work on their own car should jump on this.

Yep. It'd be a mega-deal for all 4!

On a related topic, managed to get a Motive Black Label power bleeder landed in NZ for $105 via Amazon and YouShop.

Not sure how handy you are with a wrench etc but I think there's emerging demand for basic maintenance workshops. I'm looking at doing more of my own basic maintenance e.g. Oil changes, brake bleeding and pad changes.

John, that was your plan from the beginning two years ago IIRC.

I looked at the business case for self service workshops in NZ (using similar model to the UK) around 3-4 years ago with a group of investors (most of whom had knowledge of the industry). Capex was considerable (7 figures) even with leased premise in the city suburbs (greatest resumed demand). I couldnt get the numbers to work. The variables were too uncertain, Kiwis have a penchant for borrowing and doing stuff cheap (i.e. wait till they can use a mates shed and tools etc) and the long and short of it - as good an idea as it was with compliance and other costs we couldnt make the business case stack up anywhere near the 25% minimum ROI....

Hi Macca, I actually meant someone showing us how to do this in our home garage. I watched Rob do my front pads and have done it myself since. Oil change is not difficult either but it still pays to have someone show us the tips e.g. Pre change warm up, how not to overfill, inspection of filter and sump plugs. Brake bleeding is not difficult in theory either however there are preferred starting points and techniques. None of this is outside the capability of a shade tree mechanic. I've changed out my front struts on the Turbo 3.6, done the alternator on the C4 and am about to do the calipers on the Turbo 3.6.
