I just turned 56 so I don't think I am that old in regards to my perspective. I guess what I am getting at is there are a lot of opinion on the C8 and no one has driven one, read the tests, etc.

And even then, these are cars out of original warranty and likely with "significant" miles (>10,000).

It's a value proposition that some will view differently. For some the Ferrari marque, design language, and rawer driving dynamics (in case of the F430) is worthwhile. And the stability of values is icing on their cake.

For some, having the most "latest and greatest" is enough on its own. I can understand why folks feel C8 has polarizing looks, but I like the body lines and angular haunches. And I liked the Camaro rearend, so that resemblance doesn't bother me. But I agree. I'd say 85% of c8 stingrays will at least have the z51 pkg , which will likely tack on another ~15-ish K, and that does make that value advantage alittle less compelling.

Best of fortunes to Chevrolet.
Furthermore cost of maintanance and consumables alone makes the F430/F458 not practical as a track beater IMHO.

Default Corvette C8

Any 718 owners looking at the new mid engine C8. I have a Boxster GTS, which I track extensively and love, but I just put a deposit on the C8, it looks that good. Was considering the GT4, but was disappointed in its stated performance relative to my GTS.

FYI: There were multiple threads across various sub-forums, everything was consolidated to the following thread:

Yeah, this will get deleted or moved. A few salty members can't handle any C8 talk.

As they say, sometimes the truth hurts. Trust me it's true.

Better that we all accept it.

(Not cutting the cars you own/owned, sounds like a great list)

And Porsches do retain their value? Apparently most people here think they do, but as a many decade owner of 911s, I sure as hell don't. Granted that if you keep your 911 in pristine condition, and are willing to go through the time, hassle, and expense of a private sale, you can get a decent price. But try to sell your low mileage 911 to a dealer. For example take your 2016 $120K 991 that has never been driven in the rain and has fewer than 20K miles on the odometer, and see what a Porsche dealer is willing to pay for your car. I hate going through the hassle of selling my 911s, but given the ridiculously low offers I get from Porsche dealers, I have no choice.

The only exception would be Porsche GT cars, especially the GT2RS or even a GT3RS. If by some magic you were able to buy these cars at MSRP, the dealer will give you a great price but these cars are the exception to the rule. Any way that's been my experience, but maybe the Porsche dealers in my area are the exception to the rule and other dealers are far more generous.

What chevy did not do well is take the heat out of the oil fast enough. Even the stock Z51 C7 gets its oil hot on a track - and can use additional cooling.
This is one big problem that GM barely acknowledged. The Z06 would over heat on a hot day, let alone on a canyon run or the track.

I haven't heard one word about the Automatic Fuel Management system (AFM), which was required to meet certain fuel efficiency standards in the automatic transmission version of the car.
The AFM turned cylinders off/on thru fuel delivery.

In the C7 this was the A8 slushbox tansmission. The AFM would oscillate so rapidly the torque dynamics on the transmission caused all kinds of failures.
The problem would manifest as a violent shaking and shuddering of the entire car. Who knows what impact that has on other components. Again GM barely acknowledged the problem.
Last I heard they would change the trans fluid and in some cases would replace the Torque Converter.

What is the AFM going to do to the brand new Dual Clutch transmission they built. I heard them say (rather nervously) there was no "off the sheld DCT" that could handle the power of the V8 available ,
so they had to make one. Which IMO is a very frightening prospect for a variety of reasons.

As far as dropping the roof is concerned, there were reports in the C7 the targe top would just come lose and fly off the car. Very efficient.

This would only happen if the driver has a senior moment and forgets to latch the roof in place before driving. Usually occurs when leaving the monthly AARP meeting.

Borg Warner licenses their DCT technology to the world including Porsche via ZF.

I know that "Godzilla" (GT-R) uses it.

Tremac built the DCT for GM after purchasing DCT company Hoerbiger. So this wasn’t a in house trans (thankfully). The ONLY way a top flys off is because you forgot to latch it!! That’s user error. There’s no way with the latching it would come off otherwise. And plenty of guys have admitted they forgot and lost the top.
