Thoughts on the new corvette?

Won't get rid of my .2 GT3, but I can see a Vette in my future. Hell, the C7 Grand Sport is faster than a .1 GT3 at VIR and Hockenheim short, and the equal to the 16 RS on the same tracks. No way a C8, Z51 equipped "base" with 495 HP, 470 torque, 8 speed dual clutch transmission, new suspension and mid-engine design is going to be slower. I love it, and Porsche is going to have to step up to the challenge. I can't imagine anyone spending $80k+ on a 4 cyl 718 Cayman GTS when they compare it to the new C8!
Porsche owners may have to start getting comfortable that they may no longer be the "top dog" at the track

I had a C7 and did not like it so I will withhold judgement until I drive one, which I will soon albeit I like my Targa too much to get rid of it for the C8, at least for a couple years. Some people's blinders only allow them to see one make, which is fine, but based on what I am seeing/hearing so far they have to be commended for what they came up with for the money, and if someone disagrees they are not being truthful.

Faster than a GT3 straight-line for less than $60k? Can it turn? If so, I'll go buy a gold chain and pick one up too the moment they figure out how to put in a manual box. Looking forward to seeing this at the LA Auto Show.
Dan (might forgive the GM bailout over this car, perhaps not but still, kudos to GM for moving forward)

I think it is great and cant wait to drive one. If I had 70k for a dedicated track car I would for sure buy one. The reason it would be the best new dedicated track car in my eyes is that will be a fast, mid engine sports car with a relatively low cost of entry and relatively low cost of maintenance. It will have loads of upgraded parts available to it for much less than a 911 because the typical corvette owner can not afford 911 and definitely not Super Car priced upgrades. The cheaper the car, the cheaper the go fast parts and upgrades and the more those vendors sale. I bet it will be a blast and is for sure the best bang for the buck in performance just like it always has been because it is a mass production car, not an exclusive car. I enjoyed my C7 Z06 sports car for what it was. It in no way felt even remotely unique or exclusive where I live (I know some areas have loads of 911s too but not here). I would not call it a super car, but I would say it will be faster than some super cars and has similarities, but price and exclusivity I believe play a part in that definition. If I had an extra 70k appear I would add it to my garage and turn it to a track car.

Even though I've never been a Corvette fan,I must admit this thing is sick. The look is 10 times better than the last gen,they finally got rid of the ugly exhaust pipes all stuck in the middle,NA V8,mid engine,manual transmission...all for 60K?! Nothing can beat this thing...nothing!

The configurator is STILL down! lol
And last night, the President of GM was praising the IT folks for setting up the system so it would be ready for people to use.

Personally I think they should have priced it higher. If Chevy is truly making a profit selling @ 60-70K, then they must've cut some major corners somewhere, which will eventually translate into some disappointed owners a few yrs down the road. Plus if the C7 remains in production, one will cannabilize the other , no? As opposed to if the C8 was say 80-100K , catering to a different clientele and market. OTOH, if the C8 drives as good as it looks and is of good-very good quality, then I want one! (I wonder if the DCT is "serviceable"
)
