I agree that it will affect Porsche, but only in 718 sales. Just my opinion, but I don’t feel 992 customers are cross shopping Corvettes.
Not only are Carrera drivers cross shopping, but GT3 drivers are as well. The C8 will affect 911 sales. No doubt about it and there are plenty of 911 drivers who are interested. Just look at this thread and the 10 others on RL on the same topic.
The thread in the GT3 forum alone already has 14k views and 161 posts in only 24 hours......to discuss a car that is not even a Porsche. There are GT3 drivers already putting deposits down on the C8. It is going to be a game changer and will be lapping GT3s on the track. Watch.

So I did some quick Photoshop work to try and de-camaro the rear, removed the 'CORVETTE' lettering and fixed the lights, it made the rear a bit better imo. Someone with more PS experience could for sure make it even better.
Lets be real. I love my 911, but Porsches are overpriced and the quality is not all that much better . Bore scoring, IMS, water pumps, interior parts with crappy finishes that flake off or scratch, soft paint...etc. Lets compare a $130k 911 with a 65k Vette on all aspects collectively and objectively. That being said, we are paying for the exclusivity and panache that the 911 has over the Vette...the Porsche marketing machine knew what they were doing from the start.
Chevy's overall failures are much higher than Porsche's, so Porsches are better cars thus costing more. Is that simple.
Another way to test it is to look at an old Corvette against an old Porsche. The Porsche holds much better through time, the design, the shape, desirability, etc... All that comes at a price.
I agree, but why? I cannot quite put my finger on it. Lack of passion? Followers? What is it?
I think it was the demographics they used to target. They are either dead or close to it, and never really transitioned soon enough to appeal to the younger crowd. Now, it’ll be another generation before they can even start to pick up. Also, they need to ditch the vertical tail lights and get with it.
I’ll probably keep my C2S as a street car for a while, but really looking forward to picking up an used C8 Z51 in a couple of years for a nice $40k track car. This is a bargain even considering the 718 GT4. ~300lb heavier, but 80 more hp and a non-compromised rear suspension. I can see this being almost as quick as a 991.1 GT3 on track.
As far as reliability goes, I haven’t heard of any real issues with LT1 C7 corvettes? Obviously the Z06 has known cooling issues, but seems like the base and GS are pretty reliable. Repair costs are surely to be lower than bore scoring on a 911 or if a PDK fails.
I think it is great and cant wait to drive one. If I had 70k for a dedicated track car I would for sure buy one. The reason it would be the best new dedicated track car in my eyes is that will be a fast, mid engine sports car with a relatively low cost of entry and relatively low cost of maintenance. It will have loads of upgraded parts available to it for much less than a 911 because the typical corvette owner can not afford 911 and definitely not Super Car priced upgrades. The cheaper the car, the cheaper the go fast parts and upgrades and the more those vendors sale. I bet it will be a blast and is for sure the best bang for the buck in performance just like it always has been because it is a mass production car, not an exclusive car. I enjoyed my C7 Z06 sports car for what it was. It in no way felt even remotely unique or exclusive where I live (I know some areas have loads of 911s too but not here). I would not call it a super car, but I would say it will be faster than some super cars and has similarities, but price and exclusivity I believe play a part in that definition. If I had an extra 70k appear I would add it to my garage and turn it to a track car.
Chevy has been doing great job with track focused cars for sure! I’m looking forward to driving this car. Who knows if it impresses me enough and I fit I may consider one. The cockpit unfortunately looks a little cramped and not tall driver friendly. I had to drive a t top grand sport in past to fit with my helmet on. A mid engined Chevy 6.2 liter v8 is very exciting.
I actually wrote yesterday that this is not a car for me (never bought a Corvette) but upon a bit more thought, and reading some of the posts here, how wrong can things go if I get one? A car for running errands and going to work a couple days per week with good performance, Bluetooth, air conditioning, XM radio for, say, $65/$70K (Z51) - not bad. I usually keep a beater at home for such uses, and anything these days costs $30K, so the residual is what I am thinking about. A complete sports car for the price of what P dealers in my neighborhood ask for ADM...
Plus, once in a while drive to the track, track it a bit and drive back, even if it lasts for only one session is better than what I get form my errand cars, which is zero. Looks like a good value proposition, especially if lease rates are not too bad. Well done GM. I think Cayman, 4C, Z4 and others will take a hit.
I love my 991.1 and I've been a Porsche fan since I was a kid. I'm definitely keeping that car, but I'm strongly considering adding a C8 to the garage instead of a 992 in the future.
You could order a C8 or pick one from the lot with a $10k discount off msrp a year from now. GM will flood the market with these babies and every sports car maker will take notice. McLaren will be especially hurt, but Porsche will be too. If C8 proves in real life to be 3/4 as good as it appears on paper, that is.

For me it will come down to how it looks in the flesh and how it drives. Was never a huge fan of how the vet drove with its gigantic hood in front of you. If Chevy got the mid engine formula right it will be hard to pass up especially the eventual grand sport. Just really makes me think twice about my 120k incoming Spyder. When I could just add a base vet with my Ferrari with just a hair more money
