As a vette racer I can tell you an interesting wallet sparing tidbit. Once you have a straight frame plastic is fantastic because all you do is hang plastic panels. It is so easy even an unskilled diy'er like me can do it. Also, if you stick to factory colors you can buy body panels in your color that work perfect for 50/50 racer livery. Last RR quarter fender I bought for $60 bucks! There is no way you can fix a dent that cheap. Also the front and rear bumper is rubberized whatever. Bumpdrafting and minor bumper taps do nothing more than scrape your paint because any dent pops back out and at worst you crack some paint. SCCA Majors we are no contact racing. Well, the condition of my car proves otherwise. Fiberglass and plastic are great for racecars.

Default Anyone interested in the 2020 Vette?

I think it's ugly as hell, especially the rearend. But, it looks like a real bargain and it has a good old Chevy small block LS. No more bore scoring worries! Dealer is supposed to contact me Monday about getting on the reserve list.

I am. That and a 2012 911. For similar price. Interesting cross shopping but both have a lot of pluses. I personally like the look and M willing to consider the C8 even after drinking the Porsche koolaid for the last few years.

Not necessarily, but you might with 470 ft/lbs of torque.

Part (but not all ) of the Z06 overheating issue was related to gear selection and RPM. Too high RPM in too low a gear. The car has so much torque, 3rd is generally just as quick at mid RPM as 2nd is at redline. It just doesn't sound as cool. The Ron Fellows school in Nevada, where it routinely gets to be 105-110f, has never had a Z06 overheat...on a very tight technical track. When it's hot, they tell all drivers to short shift and don't use 2nd. And they run windows up/AC on all the time!

Bought a new 2016 Z06 that was a big disappointment for me, so I won't be buying another Corvette. I did really like my 2009 Z06 though.

I've never thought Vettes look bad, they just have always driven like a video game sitting in a barco-lounger, not a sports car. The C7 was better - I drove on at COTA for several laps - but still not great.

I'd be the C8 is even better though with the much lower profile nose, cab slightly up. I'm guessing the road feel is better - can't wait to try it out. If the steering and feel improves could definitely be a big deal, they've always had plenty of power.

Welp... Just Spec'd my C8 to look almost identical to my Cayman GT4. Blue, Yellow Calipers, Buckets with Yellow stitching. Carbon Fiber accents. Can't wait to get my hands on this thing.

Z51 Package with the CF Aero Package.

The S/C had to have contributed to it. The upside of a S/C is it really feels like you have moar motor and no lag - the downside is it takes significant crank horsepower to drive the S/C - likely well over 100 HP, so the Z06 at 650HP usable output was likely producing over 750HP with a 750HP cooling load.

A turbo, on the other hand, will always have some lag and will introduce some exhaust back pressure, but the back pressure effect is pretty negligible and, for all intents and purposes, a turbo drives its compressor for free by scavenging energy that would have just gone out the exhaust. The other benefit of a turbo is it will not lose HP with altitude as the wastegate will compensate as the atmospheric pressure drops.

I'm still waiting for someone to try feeding a S/C motor with a turbo - it's been done on aircraft since WWII.

The base Vette will run circles around the GT4. I wonder if GM was trolling Porsche with 7/18 release date
