A wing will come on future models like a Z06 and the wing is optional. I do wish a manual makes a return at some point.
I had a C7 and did not like it so I will withhold judgement until I drive one, which I will soon albeit I like my Targa too much to get rid of it for the C8, at least for a couple years. Some people's blinders only allow them to see one make, which is fine, but based on what I am seeing/hearing so far they have to be commended for what they came up with for the money, and if someone disagrees they are not being truthful.
Bob it looks bad ***. I look forward to seeing your driving impressions, coming from so many vettes and a top dog 911. Figure if it can impress you at this point its a winner. If they make a grand sport version I would expect this car to be super glued to the pavement and destroy almost anything over double the price on track. The C7 GS manual beat the 991.2 C2S pdk in a head to head including a track battle. Now that it looks the part and has balance it will be a game changer if it doesnt break down. Lol
I am on this board because I purchased my first Porsche last year. A base 18 cayman PDK. Absolutely love it. Came from long history with bmw’s, mostly e36’s. Still have two. I find the c8 to be stunning and on my list of cars to own.
i guess all I’m saying is that I am a car ***** and love my Bmw’s, and Porsche, and have driven a 19 gran sport on track. it is ridiculously good. C8 is compelling.
All have strength and warts. Hope to be able to sample many more of various brands before I’m too old to care...
I owned and tracked often a 2017 Camaro SS 1LE; for reference, my other track cars over the last 6 years: 2014 911S, 2016 GT4, 2016 Viper ACR-X, Camaro, 2019 GT3T. The Camaro was an awesome track car for the $40k I paid new and cheap running cost. It made me respect GM. Fast, great handling car by any measure - sure, cheap interior and a bit heavy, but still a great car. It made me really RESPECT GM's performance cars. Now, the C8 - wow! What a value proposition. This will make every manufacturer up its game, including Porsche. There is no way I would not go drive this car to compare against buying another Porsche. My GT3 is truly a keeper but I would trade my BMW M2C against this in a heartbeat.
i'm conflicted about the aesthetics, in kind of a love/hate kind of way. totally agree with the too angular, too high belt line, non-timeless design arguments regarding the exterior, and i'd like to see more timeless, softer lines too. but I realized i keep being drawn to the black outline on the leading edge of the intakes---in a bad way---and think that may be over exaggerating some of that "hard" design language. and then i came across this image, which although a render, makes me really want to see this car with the intake edges in matching exterior color:
Since when is a 12 second 1/4 great performance? Sorry but I see a pig with lipstick!
Some might...but I dont do quarter-mile drag races much, so quarter mile is meaningless to me. but, if the track version does well on track, and if its is reliable, then its a homerun.....
718 GT4 Deposit has been withdrawn. Can't wait to get my hands on this car.
Being a Porsche fanatic, I think you make a great decision. The C8 is a bargain and super car performance. I am hoping the Grandsport will come out in 1-2 years and add the C8 convertible to the garage.
I think it looks fantastic. I applaud GM for taking a risk on changing the engine position. It will be a better car for it.
It wont be just a Cayman killer. In it's final form, it's going to be a formidable track weapon against any car.
The only open question is the reliability under sustained track use. We'll see.
Agree - I like the look much better than any prior model vette. I've never considered a corvette before....and Im not sold on this one yet. But, the look, mid engine etc at least has my interest...
