Nevertheless, one cannot compare the build quality of a Vette to a Cruze since in that case the former is built much better.
From the "stating the obvious" department, the Vette is obviously built in Bowling Green at a dedicated factory. That alone puts it in a class by itself across most all GM platforms.

I am tempted to order one just for a "what the heck" thing.

Even at $70k for a Z51 version you could load a lot of track add on's and have a very economical track car that you don't have to worry all that much about.

At 495HP on a NA engine, you can already see all the aftermarket supercharging/turbocharging shops salivating.

I personally cannot wait to see the initial drive reviews on a track to see how the core car performs. If it handles well in base Z51 trim, it might be a fun addition to the garage as a track car. If this turns out to be a solid track car in OEM trim, you can also imagine what this car could do for private racing. It would electrify track/DE open days at most tracks. You could easily see 20% of entered cars be C8's.

Agreed but they traditionally sell LOTS of base models due to the aspirational demographic, and at the beginning of production, it's all about the shiny new design. Only once that initial demand dies down will they bring on the Z series.

Same here and also agree a lot of gen 2 NSX in it, but also other inspiration is evident:

If it indeed the 2020 Corvette sells at $60K that's quite a bargain. Moreover, this forum, and reasonably so, relates every car to a Porsche. However, this new Corvette has to represent a major threat to manufacturers of all exotics and sports cars. If Porsche (and that's every model) looks expensive relative to a Corvette, imagine what Ferrari, Lamborghini and McClaren must be thinking. Moreover, the 0-60 figure is based on an ancient push rod engine. I recall reading that Chevy intends to introduce a line a overhead cam engines in the near future. Granted this will likely increase the Corvette's cost by maybe $20K (to $80K), but even at that price one now only gets a well-optioned four-cylinder Cayman.

I too think the car is aggressive looking and will have impressive numbers. I have never owned a Vette so I have no claims that are road proven except some test drives that is the basis of my opinion.
I have owned over a dozen Pcars some new, some CPO cars and some cars with several years on them. In particular the more recent Porsche's 993 vintage and up no matter the year jumping in a Porsche always left me feeling like I just drove a quality automobile.
In comparison I test drove with friends a few Vette iterations including Z06 and apart from being very fast always left feeling the car was cheaply made. No slam here just my opinion and it's really about what floats your boat.
I am impressed with the car I just don't get that emotional attraction and connection I do with Porsche and some other brands. But I do believe this car is produced with decent quality will be a hit just not in my garage. No snobbery intended I just have to have a deeper connection to the sports cars I own. I want to not be able to resist turning around to gaze after every time I park it.
I'm fairly sure I'll get slammed for this but I have no issue with the car or anyone's reason for driving it.

Uhhh, I am. Porsche has built a very good 911 in the 992 but the fun factor has been diluted with an anemic sounding engine and unless you want your sports car to be an ultra refined GT car you need to see what else is available. The sound clips I’ve heard of the C8 sound like an old school muscle car combined with Ferrari growl. Must at least look into it.

Kind of agree...
Things that ARE apples to oranges: price (992 is ~2x), quality (hopefully Chevy continues to dial this up, but won't be close the the build quality/reliability of a 992 - interior, drivetrain, etc.), that 6.2L NA V8 and its sound, and also a Porsche 911 just isn't a 'look at me' kind of product like the Vette, but still has tons of gravitas & prestige.

Things that AREN't apples to oranges: both are high-performance cars that can be daily driven, both are (functionally) 2-seaters with a small amount of storage for practicality, and we'll see what the first-drive reviews reveal, but likely both should be very smile-inducing to drive.

Bottom line to me is the majority of Porsche buyers won't sway, but there will be a considerable number who opt to jump ship to experiment or temporarily enjoy a very different bang-for-the-buck & ownership experience.

Default C8

Just got on the “list” at my local Chevy dealer. They added some things to configurator today. Prices to be added mid August. First deliveries Q1 2020.

I was referring to the post questioning quality and not performance, I stated earlier I expect the same as you with respect to performance re the Z06 will give the RS a hard time.

except the Z06 will overheat after one lap while the RS goes all day long.

ZR1 without supercharged engine vs GT3 would be interesting, though I hope Corvette has also figured out how to keep a ME track car cool.

Would be a shame if all C8 cars overheat on the track, not just the Z06!

Default C8 Corvette.

Read an interview with the c8 designers
One of the drivers for the mid engine design is putting the power down with the new motors
to paraphrase
50/50 is fine but we need to move towards 40/60 like a race car
hmmmmmm...

^^^ I'm not so sure that will be the case but it'll certainly be interesting to find out. I did notice in spite of extensive testing on the ring GM haven't posted a time for the C8.

Moreover, the 600LT is a superior package to the C8, yet round a track the RS takes the chocolate 😀

There is a lot of danger judging something from a spec sheet - this is not to say the C8 won't be competitive in Z format or a great value proposition. At the big end, all the little items add up, They also add to cost.

No way a C8, Z51 equipped "base" with 495 HP, 470 torque, 8 speed dual clutch transmission, new suspension and mid-engine design is going to be slower. I love it, and Porsche is going to have to step up to the challenge. I can't imagine anyone spending $80k+ on a 4 cyl 718 Cayman GTS when they compare it to the new C8!
Had a C7 GS still miss it as one of the best daily sports cars! Agree that this version should only be better in every way.
