Thoughts on the new corvette?

For the price, why not? It's still going to be of low quality if you're getting all that for under 60k. GM is never honest with their numbers but we will see. I hope it's a homerun. We need this car.

Lovely & I bet it's absolutely awesome to drive!
Really wish they would have gone with plain round tail lights, instead of those squinty Camaro-looking ones. The side intake also could use more flowing curves and less choppy angles; IMHO that looks odd.
Also the center console is a bit too high, even though I love the cockpit feeling.
The old saying of "never buy the 1st year model, because they need to work the bugs out" is probably not as true as it used to be, but it will be interesting to see how Chevy further develops this one. Seems like within 3-4 years, they always tweek the styling and performance in some way.
Regardless, I think the new Corvette might be bumping an Alfa Romeo 4C off my wish list.

Seems like Ike a lot of car for the $$. In 2007, the 505HP Z06 was going for $70k. Here we are 12 years later and at a lower price point? I hope the build quality is good.

Weight is 3,366 lbs., 68 lbs. heavier than the C7.
Length has grown a whopping ~6 inches over the C7. Width has increased 2+ inches.

It weighs 3366.
And threatened meaning, trying to discount the feat that Chevrolet has pulled off, offering so much value in (possibly) a world class leading package.
I for one, will be waiting out the first year bugs, but if they get the cooling issues resolved this new C8 has the potential to sit atop the SuperCar world!. Something the front engined car and lack luster interiors never could.
I'm just saying you should be proud of what it (seems) they've accomplished, and most the other responses confirm, overall this car is very well received.
Best Regards,
Dave

Similar performance to my 3RS at 1/4 the cost?? But i’ve got deviated stitching! Did you see my calipers? That’s right... they’re YELLOW, sucker.
But seriously - Corvette is a great car outright and a hell of a bargain. I bought my Mom a C7 Gransport for Christmas - excellent car and she loves it.
Does 3RS offer 4x the performance? No way. 4x the value? Well, not for every consumer but i’d argue it does for the buyer who wants a GT car. GT cars offer the x-factor - handling, feedback, fit and finish, the glorious motor in the GT3, and the unquantifiable cool factor. I’m the first to admit a loaded 3RS with ADM is hard to justify strictly with numbers but there’s not another car in the world i’d rather have and it’s a bargain to me at 4-5x the cost of American muscle.

I think it looks okay. There are some odd proportions in there, and I don't like the Camaro-esque tail lights, but you can't deny the performance.
Sub 60k base, meaning likely it'll be 70k out the door with some goodies, and that's a damned good deal all things considered.
If you like the looks, like a V8, then there's very little room to go wrong here. Bravo GM, keep the NA V8 alive.

Lol cayman owners are on suicide alert.
I like german cars. I like manual cars. But a 4 cylinder mid engine cayman for $60k ?! When you can have a v8 mid engine corvette for the same money (and probably much less when you spec them out with similar options) it’s a no brainer. Not to mention corvettes aftermarket is HUGE. Tunes, exhausts, prochargers, etc. You’ll see 700-800hp C8s roaming the streets with a total build cost of less than 80k.

On the C7 it included dry sump oiling, new shocks/springs stabilizer bars, eLSD, revised gear ratios, supersport tires, transmission/diff cooling, and an aero package. For about $5000. Its not like this "performance package" you speak of is going to include some big power adder like a supercharger.
Even at 65-70k w/ z51 package and mag ride. The car is still a hell of a deal compared to any cayman.

Like the exterior. Impressed by the dry sump. Unimpressed by the interior. No manual is a deal breaker for me.
