Yeah, going to the Corvette forum is like being in an AARP support group. Not a lot of critical thinking going on over there. When Consumer Reports came up with a less-than-stellar rating for C7, they claimed the publication is owned by the Japanese and they will never give a good rating to an American car (although there are American cars that they've given excellent ratings).

Agree the looks are less than desirable, but I don’t understand why you think it was a mistake to change to mid engine for only 4K more?

Major performance improvements for what downside exactly?

Suddenly, the “bargain” is a burden. But you can console yourself by looking at the downstream offerings in the showroom. Yuck.

My experience with Porsche, Audi and BMW has been outstanding.

How much you want to bet that this bleeding edge (for gm) car is going to need a lot of service?

GT2 RS
All Mclarens
Turbo S Exclusive... maybe

Cars in that realm are supercars. There's a certain quality in build/craftsmanship.

Hypercars:
918 Spyder
LaFerrari
P1

SPORTS CARS:
CORVETTE
911

There are cycles in cars and we just hit a new one.. A certain Corvette/American car appears. Whoops everything or does VERY well. Then the rest clobber it over the years and the Corvette/American car drowns for a decade. Just wait and see whats coming next and watch how far behind the C8 will fall again. Seems like the C6 and C8 are legends. The C7 is a POS dumpster fire.

Would have thought they could have come up with a downforce design not requiring the add-on wing.

Won't get rid of my .2 GT3, but I can see a Vette in my future. Hell, the C7 Grand Sport is faster than a .1 GT3 at VIR and Hockenheim short, and the equal to the 16 RS on the same tracks. No way a C8, Z51 equipped "base" with 495 HP, 470 torque, 8 speed dual clutch transmission, new suspension and mid-engine design is going to be slower. I love it, and Porsche is going to have to step up to the challenge. I can't imagine anyone spending $80k+ on a 4 cyl 718 Cayman GTS when they compare it to the new C8!

Huh? Wha? ...Psssh? ....how many under $100K 500 hp mid engine sports cars are you aware of? Yeah its a budget super car no matter how much you hope its not true. Chevy engineers really do great job creating budget performance. This car is definitely in super car realm . And that is without high performance model that is liekly to be released later in production.

I agree. Seems like a missed opportunity for a truly gorgeous and functional mid-engine design...McLaren, 458, etc. Could have anchored a new design theme for Chevrolet and GM as a whole, and would have had universal appeal...really putting pressure on all Porsche sports car products. Instead it looks just like you'd expect of a mid-engined Corvette or Camaro...overstyled plastic. The orange is not helping.

Wow... never thought I would hear “the Vette is a pure sports car” in a Porsche forum...

My money goes to the 992 all day. And I celebrate the corvette and wish it success as well...

The idea of dealing with a Chevy dealer if / when something goes wrong gives me a headache.

I have owned many GM muscle cars and every single one of them needed ton of work during warranty period and every single one of them was a painful experience.

Car looks good and I hope it is successful, I still wont buy one.
