Thoughts on the new corvette?

When it's time to pick a dedicated track car, I'm in. For the money (when the Z-editions come out), it can't be beat. Hopefully reliability isn't a concern but gone are days when I pined for the latest GT3 for the track! I will always own a Porsche or two but for the track, the potential of mid-engine + 650HP & tons of torque at under $100K is too appealing (hoping that handling and reliability are on point as well). In the styling/looks department, a prior post hit it square (488 + NSX) but the blue Vette rendering with the rear wing looks the business!!

"- Your thoughts? Would you ever consider it?"
- Absolutely, as current 718 owner who had intentions of getting a GT4 once I got the benediction from one of the dealers in my area I am now seriously considering the C8.
- Mid-Engine --> check
- Availability --> most likely check... we shall see about this
- (also very likely to NOT need to sing and dance to be offered a C8 (I know, I know.... the GT4 will not be limited in number--but no dealer has even deigned to take my money interest free to get on a list))
- Performance --> check (495 hp @ 6450 rpm) and (470 tq @ 5150 rpm) with "performance exhuast"
- Suspension --> check (double wishbone front and rear)
- Rubber --> 245/35ZR19 and 305/30ZR20
- Oiling --> check (Dry sump-type)
- Will it be as nice to sit in as a Porsche --> NO...... but I personally would rather trade interior quality for reliable performance.
- If everything above is correct, the car is available to be purchased, if warranty will be honored for DE events, I honestly cant think of a reason not to buy this car if you have a 100K budget

I like the C8, I don't love it. However the price point for that kind of performance makes it very attractive to me.
More than likely this thing will smoke a 718 GT4 for about 40K less. Impressive.

i think the design is a great starting point. I'm sure the aftermarket will have great options like the clear tails, bigger wheels to fill out the fenders, coilovers, etc. A full exhaust and tune for less than the price of deviated stitching will be nice too.
Obviously if this was a 200-300k Ferrari I think the design would be a bit lack luster. but for 60-100k its great. I'm sure the z06 will have an even wider body.

There are just two posters over there who bash Porsches, but they catch a lot of heat from other forum members. I've been a 911 owner for over four decades, currently own a 981S, and I'd say that at least half of the 911 owners I met also owned a Corvette. If you are a sports car enthusiast, you can find something to admire with both brands.

Maybe. Development techniques and schedules have changed a lot in recent years. More reliance on CAD (packaging, simulations, FEA, CFD, etc.) and fewer prototypes also lead to plenty of mistakes and flaws that don't all get discovered until the customer does something the engineers hadn't figured on.
Not gonna happen like w/ Audi, BMW, VW, Ferrari, and if i dare say, (Porsche) who've had their share of lemons.
You'll probably be able to drive these new Vettes to work or whatever.

Im unimpressed with the looks. it does have the presence as the previous models to be their HALO car. I used to own a C6Z and it looked killer and but build quality was absolute garbage. I think chevy really **** the bed by changing the vette to a mid engine. thats just me.

I'll take the Vette over the Panamera Coupe all day. The 992 is a Luxury-Sport car now. The tech is overly intuitive and requires lots of focus from the driver. The Vette is a pure Sport car.

And then there's the C8 Z06 scheduled as a 2021 release which is rumored to have 700 HP and 700 lb/ft torque. Rumor is that the Z06 will sticker for $20K more than a base C8. A nicely equipped model will probably sticker in the $90Ks. This should be one serious track car. Probably a 2.5 sec 0 - 60 car, provided that it comes equipped with tires that can handle all that torque.
