Totally off topic but for some good news to start 2017
Carlos and Lucas Salom from Argentina are running the Dakar race in a VW diesel.
Will also post in general forum for comments.

I must have a "fixed one" already. I never got anywhere near 37. Best I ever saw was 33 on one all highway trip. (Not knocking 33, I was happy with that)

But then again, I'm not sure how many of us really understand what the cheat REALLY consisted of. Perhaps @OmniGLH might have a better understanding?

Ever since getting mine out of the VW dealer a year ago for repair of an exhaust leak, mine has never done better than 25 on highway. Prior to that I saw in the low 30's. I'm convinced they did a software tweak but they denied it.

[edit: Maybe POA will also modify the 958.1 CD engines to 958.2 specs?]

I believe it was in the Nov. court transcripts. The Gen 1 are those being bought back. For Gen 2 (us 258.1?), VW wants to do software plus hardware change. For Gen 2.2 (the 258.2?) just software. I am just speculating from the approved fix of the later generation 2.0 (2015 only) that EPA/CARB will just approve whatever we read on the Nov 2016 transcripts.

Found this article this morning. Sounds like negotiations are still proceeding.
