You should be able to take the VIN to the dealer's Service Department and check the status of the warranty. It should go with the car, not the owner.

As far as an aftermarket warranty, if it's not from Porsche, it's not a warranty but a form of Breakdown Insurance (from an insurance company). They are rarely as good as the factory warranty - Personally I would not buy one. They often have "named coverage," where they list only the items covered, and there are often key things that aren't named, that will allow the company to deny coverage. Only buy Insurance Coverage if it names EXCLUDED items, and then read very carefully. Also where must the work be done?
And must you pay for the repair in advance and then submit for reimbursement, or will the Insurance Company pre-authorize the repair and pay the repair shop directly? If you are considering such an investment, take a copy of the Insurance Policy to the Dealer Service Department and ask if they will accept payment from that company and if they have had positive experience with the Insurer.

That's the key... the extended 6y/100k goes with the car, not the owner. Your local dealer can run the VIN and tell you if the adjustment has been made in the Porsche system. If the dealer won't, find another one... you won't want to take your care to them anyway if they behave like this when you're trying to buy one!

If a Cayenne already has the diesel CPO warranty, I wonder if a Porsche dealer has to perform any inspections and fix issues to qualify for a typical CPO or will they sell the car "As Is" with the warranty. Will they have any obligation to inspect anything? They might not disclose something like accident damage.

I think we had previously discussed that the extended warranty does not apply if the CD was already CPOed. Vaguely remember someone discussing this in this thread

I would guess that to call it a CPO car, they still have to go through the inspection - and, as necessary, replacement - of all the items on the checklist.

Otherwise, they just sell it as is, with the extended (factory) warranty.

But I wonder... how much is it worth now to have just that inspection completed (and any repairs made) if you still get the 6/100?

Looks like the CARB is scrutinizing ALL US bound diesels. Interestingly enough VW has not put any models forward for certification in MY2017. My guess is the residual of Diesel-gate.

Just a good old fashioned witch hunt from the incompetent bureaucrats.

Old news but since I have nothing else to do, I am sharing a link to the court's website. You can download the transcript of the July 26 meeting to read the exact words of what was discussed about the 3.0 engines.

Thanks, I have a call in to the local Porsche service manager. Let's see what he has to say!

Once again, thanks for posting this link. I read the transcript, all 78 pages, it was quite interesting. Be interesting to see what happens Aug 25th for the 3.0-liter case.

That doesn't bode well for a fix not impacting performance (mpg, acceleration, etc)....

Since most emissions compliance testing takes around 20 minutes, the software in the three VW Group models shuts off the emissions control equipment after 22 minutes, a straightforward end run around the testing.
That's interesting and I really have to wonder. When I changed jobs I noticed a significant decrease in my MPG. The route is the same, I just stop sooner. The only thing I've really ended up blaming it on is me, though I don't think I've been driving differently and no conscious effort has changed anything.

Average commute time was 45 minutes. Now is 25 minutes...

Makes me wonder...
