All Cayenne Diesels are involved. They are all classified as gen 2 3 liter cars according to the case.

As someone who bought now, you wouldn't be receiving much of anything in the way of compensation. Your only real wonder, of you were to buy now, would be if the proposed fix is ever approved. If it is not, VW would have to buyback your car OR get an alternative fix approved, which doesn't meet the same standards, and offer you that or buy back your car.

I would add that your other real wonder would be performance, economy and reliability after the fix.

Remember when the CEO of Porsche Oliver Blume said the following in January 2016:
"Blume says that for 2013 and 2014 Cayenne models, the fix would involve replacing catalytic converters and flashing the ECU, while for 2015 and 2016 models, which make up more than half of all Cayennes affected, the software update alone would suffice to get the 3.0-liter diesel in line with EPA emissions laws."

So, either that article was fake or they admitted that it will no be the simple software fix that was mentioned now for the 2013 and 2014 MY (I think referred to Gen 2.1). And even that fix was never approved, actually rejected in summer.
Thanks for the list of timelines.
Happy Holidays !

Wonder how they will deal with leased CD's? I have a 2016 that I leased in October 2015.

Compensation is independent of buyback or fix.

probably just turn it in at the end, or even early. you really haven't been harmed.

Could always turn it in, then come back and buy it off the lot later, if you think your residual is higher than the truck is worth.

We also have a GL350 and it has a lot more turbo lag and lower mpg than the CD. Test drove x5 and was the same. I wonder if the fix would cause the CD to drive more like those.

I think the lower turbo lag is due to the innovative turbos (variable vanes) used in the VW, Audi and Porsche turbo equipped cars. I think this was originally an invention of Porsche for their gasoline 911 turbos.

My residual value (~48k) was likely much higher than what the market price would have been. The lack of a clearly defined fix and the potential impact on performance/efficiency made me hesitant even though the CD was one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. So I turned it in when the lease was up and moved on. I read an article that comp on the 2.0 cars for leased vehicles is 50% of what owners got.

Definitely wasn't a Porsche invention - VVT turbos have been around a very long time. I think the first use in a production car was the 1989 Dodge Shadow w/Shelby CSX package but likely have been around even before that.

Not sure if BMW and Benz are using them though.

With a 48k residual I'd say you did the right thing turning it in.

I wonder if you can go back and buy it back for less as a used purchase?
