Default 997.1 tt vs 997.2 tt

Hi guys, I have a 997.1 TT MT 2009 14k miles Speed Yellow with cocoa and my friend has a 997.2 TT MT 2010 15k miles CL PTS Atlas Grey. I am a Porsche Collector and he is selling his car. I am thinking about selling my car and buy his. Difference is 30% more for his car. What do you guys think about the deal considering it will be a long time keeper? Good deal considering actual market values and rarity, or in the future Mezger will be more valuable than DFI?

Tough one. 2009 is transitional year. Speed Yellow is unique, but cocoa interior/color combo may not be everyone's taste. 997.2 manual is rare and I think the prices will continue to rise. If you're collecting, I'd say get the 2010. As special as the Mezger legacy is, I think the manual transmission Turbo and the future we have ahead of us is more special.

If it's a keeper the only question is which car you like more. Both will be worth a lot 5-10-20 years from now. There are reasons either could be more valuable in the future but both will appreciate similarly.

I think a .2 is worth at least 30% more today than a similar .1. And I think the (slight) improvements in the .2 suspension, AWD setup, interior, and engine (I know that one is debatable) help the .2s, but mainly it’s the low low production numbers of the .2 manual coupes that will make them more collectible.

Other than maybe the color I would stick with what you currently have. Not
worth the premium in my book. But I’m biased as I have a 2009 997tt.

Picked up my 07 for $62k with 45k miles all stock in 2017, has just over 55k miles and winter project is fresh clutch/cam pinning/coolant lines and chain guides along with full suspension overhaul. 2016/17 was for sure the bottom of the market on these, much like 2013-15 was for the 996tt's.

Seems like the market---if you go by BAT auction prices anyway---has gone up substantially over the last couple of months. I wonder if Hagerty still has the value of lower mileage 997tt manual coupes at like $76k?

Ha, a 2008 Cab just went for $171.5 on BaT before fees...that's 176.5 all in. Hagerty needs to make some adjustments. Heck a 60k mile 2007 sold today for $89.5 before fees! Finally, a 2007 Tiptronic sold for $85k before fees.

Not really a good data point as that car had less then 2000 miles...

Yeah, I saw that auction. I guess I don't really understand how (or more accurately, why) this stuff really works, but if you look at the bidding history on that car it was fairly steady increasing bids until it went from $146k to $161k in the last couple of minutes and IIRC, from $161k right to $171k. I personally don't see any .1 (07/08) being worth close to this unless it had options that were basically not available to the general public. And I've always thought that cabs bring less money than coupes as well. I get that ultralow mileage is like catnip to some, but as cars age the lack of use just increases the risk for problems.

I also saw that 60k mile example sell as well. I basically paid that amount for my car 11 months ago with a little over 18k miles. And back then, I was fairly certain I overpaid by ~$5k. If nothing else, I am really enjoying watching others spend their money on these cars. Never a dull moment!

Definitely agree about the low mileage car being unique, but you can't ignore the 60,000 mile unit doing $89,500 before fees.

About to submit my manual 997.2 Turbo Cab to BaT. Anyone know how long they usually take to get an auction to go live these days?

On a side note, if anyone is interested in buying it before it goes to BaT, feel free to PM.

Plan on a couple of months. Probably depends on their backlog. I imagine winter there is less of a queue.

1-2 weeks for them to reply to your submission
1-2 weeks to organize and do photo shoot
2-6 weeks for them to list it

I just went through the initial stages of this process with BaT. I ended up selling my Turbo to another Rennlister and withdrew from BaT. @arscottp is pretty spot on with timing. They approved my car for auction within 1-2 weeks. Then it was another 2-3 weeks after that to be assigned an "auction specialist" to write my listing. They scheduled a photographer in the meantime. I canceled the listing before the specialist was assigned and listing written.

They also stagger the auctions so similar cars are not running concurrently. That will probably cause a delay, as there seems to be 997 Turbos virtually every week. They said they have lots of interest year-round, especially if it's a desirable car. Buyers and sellers can be from different climates. I'm sure some of that is sales talk, but still mostly fair.
