Admittedly, as I heard you bounce, I did cringe for a second, as a vision of the car careening off the road flashed through my head...

But... 3c AND rain with that rubber would be suckier.

@c041v_ I have been thinking about this comment overnught:
He's probably forgotten more about 996 Turbos than I will ever know and has a truly incredible example.
This is a very kind thing to say, however, there are a number of folks on the board here that have a great deal more technical knowledge of the platform than I do, and they are much more capable as they can do way more work to their cars that I can, or am able to, without causing thousands of dollars worth of damage (I'm looking at you, fiddly interior bits...).
I think my skills come into play when I can listen to folks experiences, with parts, failures, victories, and then utilize the best parts of those experiences in setting up the car in the most entertaining way possible, the net result of what you experienced on Sunday.
Again, thank you for the kind words, but it the community that deserves mad props for sharing, educating and being patient with me so that I can (could) learn the best way forward.
Plus, you know how to spreadsheet - that sorcery is well beyond me, but has provided the community with the most valuable data we would ever lay our hands on.
Cheers,

I like it, it is most certainly crisper than with the AWD system on, however, at 580hp, I'm really getting to the upper limits of what is manageable with the car on the street.
For example, I am able to go through a set of twists near my home with the AWD system and 660s at around 138kmh, just touching the traction control. Car pulls out of the corner, feels very stable.
In the same section, 660s, RWD, I somewhat loose my nerve at around 120kmh, not reaching the TC flashing at me, but the front no longer 'pulls', so the sensation is new, steering still feels planted, but I would be lying if I said I was not fully cognizant of the risk of it becoming unbalanced, and/or kicking out. I don't think John or Chris have this problem on the track with heavier springs, and way stickier rubber - it'll take some time to get used to, I've maybe got 1000/1500kms on this setup.
The question of more power came up in my discussion with Adam on Sunday; quite frankly, I think that if I end up going to the 650/700hp level on the street, I'll go back to AWD, but with the setup Darrick has with the 991 front axle, electro mechanical clutch controller and most certainly an LSD. This would be almost an identical setup as I have on my Sti, and that AWD system is superior to the 996 one.
All and all, I like it RWD, but it most certainly takes more attention to drive efficiently on the street - I can break the back free with almost zero effort. when it's warm, almost from every start when it's cold. I'm sure a more appropriate compound would help in the cold, but again, the RWD setup is really not a 'rain friendly' or 'cold friendly' (read: year round) way forward.
I do, however, want to try it on my annual pilgrimage to Alberta next year, and most likely take advantage of someone's dyno too.
Cheers,

I totally agree. After parking my car for about 1 month I finally took it out to run some errands around town. Very quickly I felt nervous while the car was planted and could easily take more I didn't want the risk of semi slicks in cooler weather and the added boost that temperature brought. Very quickly I saw 0.7bar and the muted dual sneezes when I let of the gas. Sunroof open, overcast day....all I needed was a cafe to park and enjoy looking at it.
Honestly I can't see the need for more power. Guess that means I'm officially old.

The car keeps you young...
Replaced the factory Safari suspension with Ohlins R&T and some Tarett goodies. Aligned and corner balanced. So much less roll, dive, and squat. And very comfortable at the default settings.
New tires since I picked up a puncture in a rear and the sidewall took a beating getting to a tire shop that would patch it so I could crawl home. Top tip. Do not get a puncture in a 295 tire in West Virginia on a Sunday.

I've got all the stuff needed to delete the awd, just haven't done it. Not sure it's worth it to me and I know once I remove it, I'll never put it back in

There in lies the rub; I want (a bit) more power, however, after this summers experiences, I may go back to AWD in order to reach those goals.
Since you run NT01s, the one huge benefit for you will be the fact that you can switch to the much taller and better performing 305/35 and ditch the short 315/30.

Yeah, I know. Plus if I remove it and put in the Euro GT3 passenger seat I'll drop over 100lbs out of the car. When I go under the car again I'll look at what I need to do to pull the front diff...
