I bought my car with JIC/ cross suspension old school and I have to be honest it’s superb handling is sublime and ride is extremely adjustable and handles the streets of nyc like a Cadillac a few clicks and transforms it again I’ve driven stock 996 and there is no comparison aftermarket wins hands down

@bdronsick , you're pulling more than your weight in the comments on this one!

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...1-carrera-204/
  • 996 IMSB was sabotaged after MY '99
  • MY '99 interiors are indestructible
  • Porsche lost money on each 996 sold
  • Hand assembled, just like the 993!
  • LeMaaaaaaaaaaaaaans
Again, I like the enthusiasm, but cars are terrible investments once all risks and carrying costs are factored in. Why not just buy to drive an enjoy, and then feel lucky if the vehicle appreciates and selling becomes necessary (or desired)?

1,800 comments in 1.5 years on 996 auctions. Some of what you're posting really slides into hyperbole, though. What's your end game here? Froth up the market for your next sale? I don't get it.

I saw a 2-owner higher mileage (but with engine rebuild) 996 for under $11k on Craigslist yesterday, not everyone has gotten the memo yet, but the BaT tax is real

Is this double what it would have sold for last year?

I paid $26,000 off a local lot for my 1999 Aerokit (3/98 build, even though it's not in my username) with 42,000 miles and nearly the same options (including the 408 wheels) last summer. My aero is OEM but dealer installed, but it's got spats, so I think I could get close to $60k if I listed. 🤣

Edit: My car has the stock head unit, sport seats and front lip under the spoiler, so make that $65k. 🚀 For all the attention a missing gurney flap on the wing gets, I can't believe no one mentioned the front lip.

This will be a wiser purchase.

Just paid $39k for a 2003 C2, blk/blk, manual, 32k miles, not many options at all. It's on its way from AZ now. Should be arriving around 6/26. This was probably a $30k car last year?

I made a choice. I know I probably paid more than what I should have, but the true value of something is whatever the market is willing to pay. However, based on some BAT auctions, $39k doesn't seem too bad. I know the used car market is up approx. 30% in the last year. The Porsche used market has seemed to follow trend, but more specifically, the 996 market seems to be even higher.

I bought my Ram 2500 with 25k miles for $40k in June 2017, put 100k miles on it, used it every single day for work, filled with tools, towed my work trailers, towed my boat, snow plowed, made money with the truck for years! I just sold it for $31.5k, June 2021. Thats nearly 80% of what I paid. I "took the money and RAN". Now I'm using my old beater truck, bought the 911 I always wanted, and will be buying a dedicated work van when I find a good deal.

The truck didn't owe me a thing, and was only going to continue to depreciate as I continued working with it. The 911 (as the past shows is) SHOULD appreciate over time. Now, I didn't buy this as in investment...I may never sell it, I bought it to drive it and enjoy it. If it happens to retain its value, cool, if it goes up, even better...if it loses value, so be it. I can't wait to watch the car coming down off the trailer when it's delivered!

awesome. Awesome job on the truck. Car max offered me$34 on my truck 2019 F150 super crew that I paid $28.5 for. The problem is what I’m going to replace it with. Was trying to buy early 90”s merc but they got out of price I wanted to pay. I guarantee you the more you get to drive the car the more you going to love it. My wife was saying last night early this morning you are so Gun ho about that car, I told her that I felt like a kid waiting for morning to come on Christmas Day. Welcome to the club and wish you many miles of enjoyment,

I don’t find it to be counterintuitive at all. Name one thing that is cheaper now than a year ago. Hyper inflation is gaining momentum, the world governments continue to print money, and there is more liquidity and private wealth in world now than ever before. These will likely continue to increase right along with most any other old car that has reached the bottom of the depreciation curve.

Man I was thinking this was more of a BaT anomaly but it’s starting to bleed over to regular sales outside of auction sites. Long story short, my neighbors brother in law offered me $36.5k. He’s been looking at 996.2/997.1 for a couple years now and he was telling me feels like he missed the boat.

Let’s take this thread back to its original purpose please, namely documenting the now rapid updraft in 996 prices. A separate thread on BaT peanut gallery/Good or Bad would be interesting but rather not have that here.

Thanks everyone
