Good for you. I don’t know if anyone ever, on their death bed, would regret driving their sports cars rather than letting them sit in the garage.

But for those that do let their cars sit there, if it’s a work of art, I get that too. I see both sides. A car with 200 miles on it is both a shame and also a masterpiece at the same time.

I have to put miles on mine because I'm too poor to afford another car

We can probably end this thread after this sale.......
This car doesn't appear to have the front spoiler under the lip. Undriveable!

There's no way a TIP driven in manual mode is faster than a manual! I know because I now have both...

I don’t get it at all. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why rich people buy cars, don’t drive them, and then sell them to other rich guys for more money. The reasons that come to mind are 1) ego 2) status 3) a way to feel envied 4) greed.

The millions often being spent on cars in the collector world is sickening, in a world filled with so much poverty and suffering. I don’t get it. I wish I understood.

Your so called “Rich” people can be car lovers too. They just have capability to have multiple cars. They can only drive one at a time. We don’t have to drive them year round here in the snow/salt so miles tend to stay lower. 😎

I completely understand that. I was talking about people buying them just to possess them, and NOT driving them. An example might be the Ford GTs that have like 15 miles on them, and they just sit in a persons collection.

Two separate issues. To address the one:

Just think of what people spend their money on. Some buy junk food, some buy high end electronics, some buy stocks, some buy purses, golf clubs, speakers, or bourbon, ultra rare trading cards, stamps, firearms…on and on. Most of what we buy is just stuff. One man’s garbage is another’s treasure, but most of what we buy is really just stuff.

Of all the things to waste your money on, would you rather spend $200k on a trading card, a 19th century bottle of wine, some old coins, or a 930 wide body turbo? Keep in mind, you cannot really use the wine or the coins like they were meant to be used. Yeah, you’d probably take the turbo. But then again, I didn’t ask your other hobbies. What are they?

Thank you for indulging my rant with your reply. I didn’t know people collect wine that can’t ever be consumed. That’s right up there with a car that can’t be driven. I guess they’re both beyond my understanding, and I really don’t mean to judge; just want to understand.

Do you really want to know about my hobbies? 😁

Interesting 996 article March, this year: https://sportscardigest.com/porsche-996/

Excerpt:

As a collector car, Porsche 996 911 is definitely on its way to become one, at least in its rarest and most powerful variants. The Turbo and Turbo S will walk a thin line between a collectible and a usable classic, while the GT3, GT3 RS, and the ultimate GT2 will peak the 996 911’s collector car echelon. On the other hand, a naturally aspirated 996 can easily become your next usable modern Porsche classic. A well-sorted Carrera 4S with a 5-speed manual transmission is perhaps the most balanced. For years, the 996 911 was harshly criticized for largely irrational reasons, but it holds great importance for the world’s most renowned sports car maker. For that reason, this pivotal 911 will hold a place in Porsche’s history.

My my my, how the worm has turned. Only took 25 years
