But for those that do let their cars sit there, if it’s a work of art, I get that too. I see both sides. A car with 200 miles on it is both a shame and also a masterpiece at the same time.

The trick to the tip cars is to never drive in auto mode. Always drive in manual mode and then its a great transmission. They are faster and safer to drive on the technical roads, no money shifts and no over revs. I do enjoy manual cars but not when im trying to drive fast with 2 hands on the wheel.

The millions often being spent on cars in the collector world is sickening, in a world filled with so much poverty and suffering. I don’t get it. I wish I understood.

I don’t get it at all. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why rich people buy cars, don’t drive them, and then sell them to other rich guys for more money. The reasons that come to mind are 1) ego 2) status 3) a way to feel envied 4) greed.

Just think of what people spend their money on. Some buy junk food, some buy high end electronics, some buy stocks, some buy purses, golf clubs, speakers, or bourbon, ultra rare trading cards, stamps, firearms…on and on. Most of what we buy is just stuff. One man’s garbage is another’s treasure, but most of what we buy is really just stuff.
Of all the things to waste your money on, would you rather spend $200k on a trading card, a 19th century bottle of wine, some old coins, or a 930 wide body turbo? Keep in mind, you cannot really use the wine or the coins like they were meant to be used. Yeah, you’d probably take the turbo. But then again, I didn’t ask your other hobbies. What are they?

Interesting 996 article March, this year: https://sportscardigest.com/porsche-996/
Excerpt:
“As a collector car, Porsche 996 911 is definitely on its way to become one, at least in its rarest and most powerful variants. The Turbo and Turbo S will walk a thin line between a collectible and a usable classic, while the GT3, GT3 RS, and the ultimate GT2 will peak the 996 911’s collector car echelon. On the other hand, a naturally aspirated 996 can easily become your next usable modern Porsche classic. A well-sorted Carrera 4S with a 5-speed manual transmission is perhaps the most balanced. For years, the 996 911 was harshly criticized for largely irrational reasons, but it holds great importance for the world’s most renowned sports car maker. For that reason, this pivotal 911 will hold a place in Porsche’s history.”
My my my, how the worm has turned. Only took 25 years
