Surely this would have been a $25,000 car a year ago?

Hell that was probably a lower $20k car two years ago. $40.5k for a GR Tip is quite hefty. Do like that red stitched interior though!

What were seeing is that prices have doubled in two years, whether every example realizes it yet or not.

And what we will see is that prices will double again. Prob take 2-3 more years.

Then we’ll settle into a long slow grind up to $100K “level” for history; Mezgers & Unicorns many various multiples of that of course.

(I reserve the right to revise this forecast upward if at anytime Magnus posts again that the “996 headlights won LeMans”)

The Magnus bump is worth $5k per vehicle each time he posts a video like this:

Good 996 Turbos are already going for $75-$85k, rather pedestrian Turbos for $55k, outliers for $100k+. They aren't overly rare either; Porsche built about 20,000 996 Turbos.

my friend bought a 19k mile turbo for $70k a couple months ago. Red too… I told him at the time to jump on it. 2 months later already proving to be a good move

You omit the fact that ALL 996 Turbos are Mezgers, and that Porsche no longer manufactures ANYTHING (not even the current GT’s!!) with even remotely similar racing provenance as the fabled GT1 Mezger engine.

NOR does Porsche still offer the Turbo in a manual transmission.

Even if there were 20,000,000 996 Turbos, the minority of manuals would ALL be “rare” two decades later now for these two cataclysmic facts alone.

I cant even fathom how 911 history will revere the 3-pedal Mezger Turbo, 20 or even 10 years from now- The manual Turbo is GONE. The homologated Porsche race car is GONE.

Let this all eventually sink into the collector markets and just watch what becomes of the 996 manual Turbo. “Rare” and “$100k+” do not even begin..

If anybody is snapping up a Turbo, here is a Turbo that might still be a good deal: 2001 PORSCHE 911 TURBO 996 996TT - $58,000

Grey, 56K miles, stick, 2 owners, no winters, GT3 shifter, apparently well taken care of.

And a coherent and cohesive Craigslist ad, that in itself seems to be an anomaly anymore. That's a hell of a deal, if I had the spare cash I'd scoop that up tomorrow. Knew I shouldn't have wasted money on a house and got a TT instead.

LOL. Have been trying to figure out a way to sneak a car into our manufacturing plants tooling budget, if engineering would quit spending so much there'd probably be a chance!

That would have been a $38k car as little as 2 years ago. My how things change.
