Whether or not the 996 is or ever will be “highly appreciated” is another matter.
I think the market will eventually figure it out, but who knows. The irony is that for those (like me) who really love the early pre-1973 911's, the lightest version of the 996 is probably the best driving 911 and the closest to those pre-'73 you can find.

I was late to the party unfortunately. I got my car in summer of 2021, pretty clean, 32k miles, black/black, base manual, for $39k but obviously OTD was close to $44k with tax, shipping. My car actually has the “Carrera” wing which I think was the aerokit wing on cabriolets.

This was PEAK covid pricing, and it’s all relative because at the same time I got $32k for a truck that I paid $40k for in 2017, after beating it up towing, working and plowing for 100k miles, so I took my “winnings” and put it into my 996 purchase. I never would have been able to make it happen without the absurd offer on my truck from a dealer who needed inventory. A year later I bought a brand new MB sprinter 4x4 for 60k and sold it not even a year later for 69k, and rolled those “winnings” into buying my lifted e53 x5. So it all worked out in the end.

Although I might wanna sell my x5 for a black/black Cayenne S now, as it would pair nicely with the 996.

edit: also, why is it that on suncoast the full .2 Aerokit is $4800 and just the rear wing alone is $5900? And the full kit, that is the full deck lid with wing uprights, wing and everything needed?

@JP_Gervs , let's start a "late to the party" club. I bought my C4S in 2024. $$$$$$$$$$

Yes we should. Welcome to the Late to the Party Club, you just missed the cutoff (late again!), so that’ll be a $50 cover charge.

One good thing that has come with the rise in 996 popularity (and pricing), is that I feel the aftermarket companies and enthusiast support online has been growing and will continue to grow as the 996 continues to become more popular and get more love. For me the 996 and 997 have been and still are my favorite 911s, as they were the “new” ones I admired as a kid growing up in the 90s and 00s dreaming about cars and playing racing video games. I actually always preferred the 996.2 headlights over anything else, and still do.

I was early to the party. I bought my 2002 C2 in 2002. Don't know if will ever be worth what I paid for it, but it doesn't really matter. 22 years of fun on the street and track.

About to drive to Phila from Chicago today and back to visit family over the weekend. Fun drive to give it some long distance exercise.

forget being early to the party, it’s YOUR party lol. Considering my base 03 msrp was in the $80k’s, that would be worth roughly $140k in today’s dollars, but like you said, doesn’t really matter. Cars are awful “investments”, but it’s comforting to know that one can buy, drive, and enjoy a car and not get totally killed when/if they sell. Enjoy your trip, safe travels, and Happy Easter.

Yeah, but, considering what all the older 911s are selling for these days, you are still not late, lol.

Forget about the 996 being worth $50k-$70k in 15 years because it’s a collectible. It’s going to be worth that much because any car like it (analog, light weight, manual, pre-century design) are also going to be worth a lot more because they will become more and more uncommon and rare, more and more difficult to replace, and we still have to backfill the trillions of dollars the U.S. Fed has decided to print (inflation).

Take the unloved, slow, and cheaper 912. Those used to be $10k. I feel the same way about the original Boxster as well. That car is going to be worth $50k all day long in 15 years.

Current bid is up to $441,000 with time continually being added because the bidding is frantic in the last two minutes. I was thinking of bidding but this price is WAY over my estimate for the car...especially given the car's condition.

New BaT record for a 996-based car???

996 (especially Mezgers) will continue to shatter records forever

Even us in this thread have no concept of what is coming for the first, and the only 911 that ever won LeMans

Hold boys. Hold!

That’s amazing. Sold for $441k. Wow. One of 27. Might this be the most perfect 996 ever? Top 20 911s ever made?
