Definitely one in a million, but I personally would never pay one in a million price for...., silver.

Relative. I would pay literally through the nose for any 3.2/964 in any silver. But you're right on 993/996/997/991/992 silver is a subtract. All numbers. Of course the unicorn colors are priceless any generation any model. That's just existential 911 truth. If you're holding any 911 in any unicorn color all you have to do is wait

So are we out of the "COVID buying" bubble? Is this natural 996 appreciation now? What do we think?

Ford F150's?? Sure they will crash. But you'll die waiting for any classic 911 to lose value.

Amazing how the landscape has changed since last year... less numbers for sale overall.. and price appreciation of at least 25% or so..

More like 50% - 100% for desirable examples. Heck “desirable” wasn’t even a 996 adjective 24-months ago.

In 2019, Magnus simply posted:

”Nobody had a problem with the bloody headlights when they won LeMans”

and overnight a social media 996 star was born

HOWEVER this was my son almost twenty years ago. He knew.. I think most of us here did:

Just like a 914... It was the aircooled car that everyone hated. Now every hater wants one.
I knew the 996 would do this.. No one ever listens.

Luckily I kept a few that I bought with failed engines. At least I listened to myself.

Mathematically highly improbable but fun to imagine. Vampire drain is a max of 3 percent per day, 5 percent in real cold weather. Cold can kill range when moving, not same as killing battery when stopped. But even if you're down real low you can sit there for a couple days in traffic. I can imagine evac due to hurricane perhaps, but even then Tesla increases vehicle range via over the air software change, can't speak to Mustang Mach E LOL.

I said that the 996 would appreciate too; but I was saying that to my wife and even I didn't believe myself.

If they pass the wealth tax, which taxes the unrealized gains on equities and bonds etc., you will see a shift in investments from stocks and bonds into art and yes - automobiles. Not the 996 class but the higher end cars and the appreciation effect will filter down. Perhaps.

You don't really have to be a mystical old wise man to have predicted some 996s and other previously unloved Porsches would eventually be re-evaluated by the market. It's just the natural order of things as enthusiast cars age, and the last 8-10 years have been especially favorable to the Porsche marque as air-cooleds gained collector cachet and created sort of a halo effect for the whole brand.

This isn't just a Porsche phenomenon. I remember 20 years ago everyone wanted 67-69 Camaros and all the others were considered trash. They the supply of 67-69 Camaros disappeared and the 70-73 got hot. Not as hot as the 67-69 models but still went up in value. Very similar to what we are seeing with the 996s now.

Cool picture. My son who was about the same age when he went with me in 2002 to buy my 996. It will be his some day.

It isn't just a car phenomenon. No one wanted a "bowling ball" AMF Harley 5 years ago. But now that previous era HDs are so valuable, people are paying money for AMF bikes.
