Funny how 113K miles for a 964 or 993 would be nothing. But on 996 the "high miles" threshold still cuts the price literally in half. As much as Type 996 perceptions have changed for the better in all other respects, in this one aspect they still have not. Even the 996/997 Mezgers fall out of the bottom when miles approach 100K. And this is for a drive-train that is literally the stoutest and most reliable in Porsche's history. Inexplicable to say the least

Might be a perception issue that goes away when cars regularly top 100K. 30K mile 996's sell now for about $40k, 100k clean 996's see a drop of $20K, not really a lot of $, but for a 40K car that's a 50% discount. Compare to a good low mile 964 selling for $120K, vs. a clean 100K mile car might drop $40K in price, bigger drop than the 996 dollar-wise but only represents 33% discount in the 964 market. Thus, there's an illusion that 100K+ is not a lot of miles for a 964. Mezgers might be in that no man's land in between the 996 and 964 base cars.

Look at what this just fetched!!
Wow, a 6 year old imsb (that needs to be replaced) and 17” wheels (when one of the very few options on the sticker was 18” turbo look wheels - I wonder where they went?). Not even full leather interior... $25 - $30k seems about right (inflated compared to a year or two ago but still realistic...). $42k just seems silly, but whatever!

Smartest 911 buyers in the world were all the guys overpaying $45K for 964’s ten years ago

maybe so, but a 996 isn’t a 964 imo. Again my personal opinion, but Carreras, especially .1s are just not that attractive (excluding .2 wide bodys, they’re much better on the eyes.)

If they had the right proportions “look wise” like the 964, and 993s I feel the cars short comings would have began getting overlooked a long time ago. There just not that pretty! And yes I understand opinions are like a-holes.

Maybe your comparison is faulty because you discuss the end of an era to the start of the new 996.1
It’s a better driver in every way faster/braking better /light/ more comfortable
plus there is enough uniqueness to make it a future/current collectible and I’m only talking pre 99 cars

no the convo was started with the 964 comparison price wise. There’s so much more to a Porsche than the way it drives. 911 values aren’t solely based on its drive ability. We all know the 996 drives beautifully. Collectors want a car that not only drives amazing, but looks the part too! Which again imo the 996 regular Carreras are lacking. If the car was more visually appealing these cars would be much higher in value! Don’t think the ims, and potential bore scoring are the only issues keeping value down is all I’m saying.

this. This is also why the aero kit cars are so much more desirable. The base 996.1 looks like an amorphous blob and has zero aggression. The looks do not match the driving characteristics of the car. An aero kit remedies this problem

My early build 99 with the sports options package (014) came standard with a four spoke steering wheel.

The aero kit does helps, but again imo I feel it’s a bit overkill aero on a 300hp car. The kit looks a bit boy racer too me with the huge rear wing on a base carrera. I don’t know, but the only 996 that does it for me is the C4S with its completely different rear end. The reflective rear bar is totally in line with its past, and when shown from the back the 993 C4S, and 996 C4S look pretty much the same
