Yup - They're way crazier than the drivers themselves! Have you ever seen the Isle of Mann motorcycle race? Even crazier... maybe if they'd seen this video they wouldn't stand so close...

So I was reviewing the footage from my last track day a little closer, since I had not adjusted the camera properly for a preferred outside view (was more washed out than I would have liked) I got a better cockpit view than I generally do and I could get a pretty clear look at my gauges. I watched a session back with an eye on the oil pressure gauge and noticed a constant dip down to 2 Bar and change at the same point on the track. The pressure did not drop quite as far, about 2.5 Bar on first couple laps of the day and also did not drop as far or consistently when I was slower than capable due to traffic.

Sweeping right coming off a braking zone, as soon as I get off the brakes and turn in a quick drop of about 1 Bar in pressure that builds rapidly as G's are bled off. This is on PS4S tires, 2QT Deep sump and baffle, XP9 oil. You can see RPM at the time at about 4K, coolant temps are good and I am at WOT at this point. Clean magnetic drain plug and filter was inspected and free of any debris as well.

Below are the screen shot, showing RPM and pressure as well as the track map showing the point on track of occurrence. I also added the video as well. If you leave it in small screen you can zoom in and watch the gauge.

^ Porsche x51 baffles (plastic) or LN Engineering/EBS metal baffle kit? The former is hot garbage and will break down over time (quickly with track use) or even worse the tabs are prone to breaking on install. My engine shop won’t even install the Porsche part as, *their claim, 50% break on install.

I have the deep Sump and ebs metal baffles and it’s perfect everywhere but the AAA roval.

LN/EBS...

If I had not watched the video back with an eye on the gauge, no way I would have noticed it as it was so brief and only at that one point on the track, but it's clearly there.

My larger concern is the temps were very favorable, 43 ambient and I was on street tires. It will be R comps and a summers worth of track days next season so I expect the issue to be more prevalent if not resolved.

hmmmm....oil level maybe? I run slicks on a 2600 lbs car, so am pulling as many G’s as you can in a 996 and the oil level always stays within range. I track it via data acquisition, so very accurate.

Either way it’s something you want to keep an eye on and good on you for looking out. These motors are not robust and oil starvation is a known issue.

No worries, I appreciate the input. May be leaning to an accusump...

accusump is way more trouble than its worth.

Do you have just the vertical baffle or the horizontal one as well?
Also, what oil are you running?
lastly, what are your oil temps.

When my oil temps are around 200, pressure drop is nearly non-existent. At 240, pressure drops all over the place.

Run XP9 and keep your oil no higher than 220 and the motor should be ok.

I'm baffled by people who claim their pressure is great everywhere. If someone can show me the graph of that, I'd be interested.
