Another glorious day here. Sunny and warm. Got the exhaust system in place, but still need the connector clamps. I ordered them quite some time ago. Hope to see them soon.

It was so nice, I even opened the back door.

This will not stand. If there isn't a plug to fill this hole, I'll come up with something. This will account for some of the dirt and debris I found inside the bellhousing.

I think that allows a little cooling air for the clutch

Could be. I will look more closely. I don't like the idea of such a large opening allowing dirt in. Most people don't drive in the dirt as much as I do.

Default Adapt an old school crankcase breather filter

Could probably adapt an old school crankcase breather filter to help control the FOD allowed to enter.

It's the bell housing. Cut a plate out of aluminum, drill two small holes in the housing and fasten the plate to the outside with some screws. Not going to hurt anything.

I'm agreein' with jjbravo, pardner. It's a vent to let the hot air escape-I don't think the Tip bellhousing has it. But I'll defer to anything Doc says if he should chime in differently.

Brilliant! That's a good idea- but I am much more amazed that you've been lurking here for 9 years and chose this thread for your first post.

That would work but, if the purpose of the opening is to allow heat out, it might do more harm than good. I like the filter idea. Shouldn't be hard to come up with something.

Yep, it is indeed an air vent, the 996 Turbo actually has a plastic "air scoop" that bolts to the bellhousing to promote air flow.

The "Ultimate Clutch Vent Solution" should have a cross-flow ventilation with entry and exit on opposite sides with forward and backward air scoops and a filtration element !!!! signed Dr. h. c. Porschetech3

Don't forget an infrared sensor to tell when your filter element is dirty

I really need a way to change my clutch through that vent...it would make things a whole lot easier.

I pulled all the oxygen sensors out. I looked in one of the holes for one of the cats and saw a bunch of little green *****. This answers a couple of questions. 1) where that mouse disappeared to a couple of weeks ago, and 2) where all the poison has been going. I did get a mouse in a trap a few days ago. Might be the one that's been causing all this havoc.

Seeing this reminds me of a 997.1 CPO car we had at the shop years ago. The car was smoking out of the drivers side exhaust bank 2 pipe and the smell was totally obnoxious !!! The smell was so bad it cleared everyone out of the shop !! Come to find out, a rodent had filled the drivers side muffler with dry dog food, and it was turning to charcoal...lol

We live in a rural area (not that rodents don't find a home in the city) and my old Yamaha IT400 had been in the barn for years. A couple of years ago, I got it going again. But not before I removed a bunch of fiberglass insulation from the exhaust port and top of the piston!

I've been following this thread for several weeks as I'm more accustomed to the SBC and SB Fords than to the P-Car flat-6. Good work! I'm a lurker mainly because work/family eat up my time to contribute that much so I'm limited to just consume the info.
