Does anyone know when Porsche moved to metal pulleys? My 2004 has what looks like all metal pulleys, which I imagine are more dependable and wont break up on you over time.
Not sure. The ones I removed from mine looked like yours I'd assume they're original from my '04. I was surprised and a little concerned at first the ones that came with the Continental belt kit are so different.
The ones on mine have the P logo so they're the OEM ones for sure. I suppose they won't break up but the bearing it spins on could seize. I might pull them and see if the bearing seals can be accessed so I can service the bearing itself.
You will them on pelican parts. Good source for lots of stuff
problem is you buy one, it’s prettier then the one on the same side so you get two, then you hate that they don’t all match and end up getting all four.
One of mine did break up. The outside casing somehow broke up. The belt became loose and was torn up. My indy tech saw it and replaced it with a pulley pulled from another bench engine. had the belt broken, the engine would have seized up. Luckily it was only a $150. repair. Had my tech not caught it I would have had a blown engine if the belt broke.
Always good to replace belts and check the pulleys during regular maintenance. We tend to not think about it.
