Not so much as “today” but finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel today refreshing this new to me 50k miles C2 with:
-removed the original PPF and paint corrected.
-full interior detail and leather restoration with leatherique (amazing stuff BTW)
-full maintenance tune-up AOS, Plugs and coils, misc vac hoses, thermostat and water pump, belts and pulleys, oil pressure sensor, fuel sending unit and fuel pump, motor and trans mounts
Wiper blade replacement and oil change with DT40. First oil change with the DT40 as I was waiting for the 4,500-mile mark on the Nickies rebuild from last year. This was the 3rd oil change as I replaced the break-in oil at 400 miles and then did two changes with non-synthetic Driven oil to get to 4,500 miles. A year later the engine is running great.
After 5 straight 60+ hour work weeks, I was glad to have a 3-day weekend.
My family has been sick with COVID for the last 12 days.
It's been passed from person to person and we're staying away from each other as much as we can.
So far I'm the only one who has not had it.
Since I feel fine, but have to stay away from everyone else, you would think I'd get a lot done.
All I've done so far this 3-day weekend other than grocery shop, mow, dishes, laundry & fixing meals for the "patients" is I finally washed and waxed my 996 for the first time in months.

Sorry to hear that Tex! Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate with work and domestic. I hope the family get over the COVID without any hiccups. The car looks great man. My girl is so overdue for the detail. I bought one of those dongles that the jdeeeper recommended because I had a CEL, it arrived today so I downloaded the app from the Play store and connected it started the car and what do you know there's no check engine light. I have my doubts that whatever cause it is gone for good. It's really looking tough around here to find a Porsche mechanic, it's as rural as rural gets. So I got to be independent. I've been working everyday on organizing getting stuff ready to go out to the dump or for sale on eBay, my mom's garage is full of years and years of collecting. Not hoarding but just you know when you live at a house for so long you collect a lot of furniture and old stuff. But it's got to go out now my 996 needs a home for the winter. Between cleaning the house and the garage my back is killing me. But hey at least I'm CEL free. Time for a quick nap and then I'll get back at it. All the best.
Today I tuned my mountain bike, a specialized stumpjumper FSR, at least enough to ride. It's been sitting a while, so I'm going to make a project of rebuilding the forks and shock, and a few other things. I'm going to prep my road bike for Zwift, winters are long here, so I need a trainer. I'm trying to decide between popping for the tacx neo 2 or saving some $ and getting the Zwift branded one. I'm really into a virtual electromag flywheel I think, it seems a lot better than a 10kg mechanical. Convince me otherwise, go ahead, I'm listening👍
What's this got to do with my 996 you ask? Well, I splurged today, got a quickjack 5000TL, for $1,499.99 CAN$. Any other North of the border folks who can take advantage of this sale, here is the link - https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/q...w.ds#store=476.
Even with the tax, it's a sweet deal. My back will thank me. But....I spent the trainer cash on the lift. So there's that.
Anyway, It's good to be back in Canada. ❤️🇨🇦💯
Extensive service records for my .04 996 C2 showed the engine air filter last replaced at about 20,000 miles; I now have 70K.. It's had diligent service, so I thought this was an oversight. Ordered and installed a Mahle OEM type air filter. However, what I removed was a BMC 159 reusable filter. I'm going to use this new filter for its appropriate life, but may learn how to clean the BMC and reuse it in the future. I know there are differing opinions on these.
It's interesting that the two previous long-term owners were faithful about annual maintenance. One of them seemed to engage in buying "accessories" for the 996, to include a Rennline strut brace, Porsche 996/997 factory short shift kit, imitation aluminum gas cap, F7 silicone intake hose with resonator bypass, Fister exhaust, and, now, a "performance" air filter. I consider most of these as somewhat enhancements so got a bit of a bonus with an already nicely maintained car.

Just thought this was interesting.
Maintenance records and service history can be weird. I bought a 65,000 mile 2014 BMW 328i in October 2020 that had extensive dealer service records dating back to day one. When I went to change the air filter in July 2021 I found it was the original........and black. So dirty it looked like it was from a coal mine.
Removed the axle with the torn boot, rebuilt it and installed it which took more or less all of Friday with multiple "honey-do list" breaks in between. Refreshed the front suspension on Saturday and I have to say that the 996 is one of the easiest cars I've ever worked on when it comes to suspension as I had both sides knocked out in about 3 hours. I takes me 3 hours just to disassemble one side on the Golf R.
Axle back in place, I had my wife stand on the rotor hat to push it down for more room to get the old axle out and the new axle in. She said that is the maximum of her car DIY abilities, glad she was helping though for all of 5 minutes.
All the suspension components were original and definitely seen better days.
