What did you do to your 996 today?

Finished the new/used exhaust install. Used mufflers, new SOUL sport cats, new plugs and coil packs. Lots if rusty hardware fought, a few broken bolts and studs dealt with. A few beers and lots of Oh S^&t moments. Exhaust has a bit more growl to it. Pleased so far.

Nice job, I have been interested in the Soul 200 cell Cats for my 996. Let us know how you like them and if they trigger any fault codes.

Will do. I was getting a code on one of the original cats so that started this journey. Taking a longer drive today after a test ride yesterday. So far I like the sound. Adds just a bit of growl with the stock mufflers. Fit and finish were/are excellent. My car was originally from Chicago so the exhaust hardware was toast. I had to source used supports, used mufflers and a bunch of new hardware. Getting the Cats fit to the mufflers was thankfully pretty easy. My original mufflers are rusting at the seam. I may play around with them and see if I can do the Gundo hack and weld the seams up, then swap them in at some point.

Yesterday
Putting in rebuilt hydraulics went very quickly
This one 100% blocked. Other was 90%. Hosing out from outside cleaned them out
At least the mouse only chewed this one wire
Yesterday
- Put back in rebuilt hydraulic top cylinders
- Cleaned out interior drain exit ports in wheel well
- replaced drivers side power mirror. New 3 prong electric connector didn't match 8 prong original so removed old power board and soldered to new and modified so it fit perfectly
- Brake fluid level sensor's wires had been chewed by a mouse when PO left it outside. Cut, added extension piece, soldered and shrink wrapped

The original paint of my 2/98 coupe has been treated with 303 products graphene coating, I liked it so much I did my 2019 F 150 and my wife’s amg. Anyway, it’s not cheap but I loved the results. Now I am going to test durability, they claim 1 year, I don’t know, let’s see how long it last on this Texas weather. I used to work selling and formulating these kind of products for professional detailers and car dealers at a commercial level. I’m really impress with this product specially when someone quoted $800 for a ceramic coat, 5 year warranty with a once a year reapplication. My 996 had taken me back to all the stuff I used to do with my cars when I was in my thirties, I just turned 53 and it is like a new hobby obsession for me.

Nice car. I can't help thinking how much it would change to restore the headlights to their intended glory. Just me but they will make a TON of difference. Your friends should tell you but they don't want to be impolite. Feel free to ignore me and my inappropriate social inadequacy. In the meantime the 303 looks like it's going great. Was application easy?

Obtained two M96 engines to play with.
Weighed one with all accessories but no exhaust. Both scales added together read 449, raised engine and second reading 448 for 448.5lbs average. Repositioned scales and read 401, 398, 402, and 396, for 399.25lbs. Not sure why such a big discrepancy between readings, but surprised it is this heavy thought Porsche engine unit would weigh around 350lbs.

Replaced worn out shifter cable linkage. Rubber grommet (block of rubber) was a real PITA.

How'd you get the grommet out... That thing is one of the worst jobs on this car to do IMO... tell me you have a trick.

Hey Zbomb, after fighting with it using everything I could find to try to pound it out, I ended spraying a ton of WD40 using the little red straw attachment. I just poked it all around the grommet between it and the little tunnel part of the car. I hit the grommet again and it shot out like nothing, wasted a couple hours up until that happened. Couldn't believe my luck, thought I was going to have to cut it in half somehow. Good Luck.
