...and i only got one side done. It took a while to get the muffler off, but there was no way i was going to try without doing it. I have a clanking noise on the right side. With a stethoscope it doesnt sound any different anywhere on the engine (well, the left side is quiter). Both my son and i were sure it was external, so i ran it without the serpentine belt, no difference. The exhaust seemed pretty solid everywhere, and the noise was in time with the engine so its really worrisome.
then i went to take the three nuts of the muffler bracket, and there was only one. The other two studs were sheared off. Thats a definite possible source of the noise.. I got stainless bolts and nuts to replace the two. Unfortunately i didnt quite get it back together today because, well, i can only think of one job more frustrating than putting the number four coil back and connecting it.that was putting a speed sensor on a 944 bell housing. You guys that do plugs without removing the muffler are superstars. It took forever to get it plugged back in. So i have to wait until morning to get the muffler back in and cross my fingers that it was the clanging. I also noticed the linkage for the PSE was stuck and wondered if that would let the valve flap back and forth. I think the vaccuum line was connected and just pulled off, because the inlet was clean.
Changing the plugs and tubes took me about 12 hours the first time and less than two the second time. I don't know how people do it without removing the mufflers. Hopefully the noise is muffler related and you get that straightened out. Good luck. One tip - tug on the coil wires before you button it up. Sometimes they look like they are attached but aren't clicked in. Ask me how I know.

I only cut the Speed sensor (Grey/Pink) wire. I like the fact the you need to pull the e-brake up one notch in order to engage the top. It prevents accidentally opening it when you shouldn't.

I cut the pink and grey wire this morning, works like a charm allowing to open and close the soft top while driving. Just need keep an eye on the speedometer to insure the speed is lower than 25 MPH.
For sure the fancy Top adapter has more features but free is good...Smile
Yesterday I went for a loop on one of my go to local roads, was short on time and looking for a reset. Took the opportunity to make another video where I actually tried some editing, I've got a long way to go to make anything entertaining but I would like to learn and gives a great excuse to spend time with the car. I have a couple track days lined up next month, hopefully I'll get some good material out of them.
Today in preparation for the track days and in reward of the cars excellent behavior I cleaned out the rads and did some other housekeeping while I had the bumper off. Lot of **** caught up in there should help put the car in a better place for hot July track work.

I think your videos are pretty good. I'm curious though, what are you using for a mount? I have a $50.00 GoPro wannabe that I use with a suction mount in the 996. It works okay but seems to always fall off the window after a certain amount of heat and sun. I'm just wondering if there are any better options out there. Maybe just a better quality suction cup mount than came with the $50 GoPro wannabe?

If you plan on leaving the mount in place, just put some black RTV silicon on the suction cup before install.
I had this problem with my Garmin I windshield mounted up by the rear view mirror and hard wired in to the roof console. It's been on now for years and hanging on tight. With just the suction cup it would last for a few days or a week or two, with the added RTV I think it will be there until i "forcefully " remove it..lol

Mount is a GoPro bar mount on the roll bar. Very solid. I messed around with some suction cup mounts previously and found this option preferable.

I decided to do that mod after getting stuck in slow moving construction traffic with the top open. There was nowhere to pull over to stop and it started raining. Prior to that I didn't see the need.
