Drove 825 miles and spent 11.5 hours driving round trip from NorCal to SoCal in my F250 to pickup a new to me set of OEM BBS Carerra wheels & tires for my 2002 C4 Cab.
Plan to install them tomorrow. Will post before and after pics later.
Update 6/7/2020:
Just installed the "new" 18" OEM BBS Carerra wheels that came w/Falken Azenis RT615K's on them and took a short 5-10 mile drive on a very narrow, bumpy and twisty road that's just minutes from my house and I am THRILLED!
The handling of the car w/the heavy aftermarket 19" wheels w/oversized Nexen 3000's on them truly S*CKED! Very heavy front end handling and harsh ride made the car all but unsteerable on bumpy twisty roads. HATED them!!!
The "new" BBS Carerra wheels totally transform the handling of the car. The car is now much more nimble and very precise, just as I remember from driving other 996's w/OEM wheels, AND I can drive it FASTER and deeper into the turns than w/the "good looking" but big A$$ED and heavy aftermarket wheels!
I also like the look of the look of the BBS Carerra wheels better than the aftermarket wheels and the Falkens seem to handle well enough.
The Falkens are mainly a dry road tire and I only drive when it's sunny and road is dry. So, that's all good w/me. Would rather have a set of Michelin Pilots on them but beggars can't be choosy. They were the wheels that I really wanted and now I've got them. If when the Falkens ever wear out (unlikely given how much meat is still on them and how little I drive any of my sports cars), I'll swap them for Michelins but in the meantime the Falkens will do.
Only cost me $1200 for the entire set w/the tires and the US Government paid for it. Used my stimulus check $ to buy them so they were really FREE to me!
Well, not exactly free because I spent $171 on the center caps and $190 for diesel fuel. So, it $361 actually cost me $361 for the set of 4 wheels and tires, which is pretty much free. Anyway, I don't think that this kind of spending is what the Congress had in mind when it gave away all that $ but that's how I spent mine. LOL!!!
However, switching to the lighter wheels wheels did not help w/the poor breaking that I've noticed recently.
I was sitting on the fence about whether to just do the minimum (brake fluid flush and brake line swap for about $700) first or to do a complete brake job (rotors, pads, brake lines and flush for about $1800). The switch to lighter wheels convinced me that I need to bite the bullet and just do the whole thing together. More $ than I wanted to spend but the $ I saved on the wheels/tires makes up for the extra cost.
Think I'll also do the center console/ashtray delete in the process, which should complete the "upgrades" to my 996 for now.
PS: That's my black 2008 BMW 335i E90 that I also spent a lot of $ "fixing up." I drove to SoCal to get the M-wheels on the car too! Very happy w/how that car turn out and I'm liking the direction my 996 is now taking too.
Installed RSS Semi Solid Engine Mounts. Raised the exhaust tips 3/4 in.
First impression: rear feels much more 'planted' especially on aggressive cornering.
How does it differ as far as vibration is concerned? I’m trying to understand how it mates with engine as there is difference in diameter on the engine side.
