Just installed the "new" OEM BBS Carerra wheels that came w/Falken Azenis RT615K's on them and took a short 5-10 mile drive on a very narrow, bumpy and twisty roads just minutes from my house and I am THRILLED!
The handling of the car w/the heavy aftermarket 19" wheels w/oversized Nexen 3000's on them truly S*CKED! Very heavy front end handling made the car all but unsteerable on bumpy twisty roads. HATED them!!!
The "new" BBS Carerra wheels totally transform the handling of the car. The car is now much more nimble and very precise, just as I remember from driving other 996's w/OEM wheels AND I can drive it FASTER than w/the "good looking" but big A$$ED and heavy aftermarket wheels!
I also like the look of the look of these wheels better than the aftermarket wheels too! The Falkens seem to handle well. They are mainly a dry road tire and I only drive when it's sunny and road is dry. So, that's all good w/me. Would rather have a set of Michelin Pilots on them but beggars cna't be choosy. It' was the wheels I really wanted and now I've got them. If when the Falkens ever wear out (unlikely given how much meat is still on them and how little I drive any of my sports cars), I'll swap them for Michelins but in the meantime the Falkens will do.
Only cost me $1200 for the entire set w/the tires and the US Government paid for it. Used my stimulus check $ to buy them so they were really FREE to me! Don't think that's what the Congress was thinking when it gave away that $ but that's where mine went.
Now I have to "join" Rennlist in order to sell those sh*tty a$$ed wheels/tires that I just took off the car, if anyone here would even consider buying them.
Probably better to try to dump them off "cheap" on Craigslist instead to people who don't know any better. LOL!!!
Went for a Sunday drive with the Mpls MN Porsche and Pancakes group. Put about 200 miles on. The weather was beautiful. There were 26 cars in attendance.
I made a skid pad out of an unused college parking lot. I'm trying to get a feel for what the car does at its cornering limits.
Basically I left it in 1st gear, turned the wheel about 3/4 of a turn and started going faster and faster, being careful not to take it to the limit when a light post was near the outside of my turn. I should do this a few more times but now I know what it feels and sounds like when the back end is getting ready to come out on me.
I also let off the throttle and got a feel for what the trailing throttle oversteer is like. Someone told me that this car can swap ends on you if you let off the throttle in a corner. I didn't find that to be true though I was only going 20-30 MPH. The back end definitely came out but it got nowhere near to swapping ends.
I got the car 3 months ago and it's my first Porsche. I want to do a DE weekend this year but that probably won't be until ~October.

Next you have to find a lot that will let you do it in 3rd My experience is that 996s don’t snap oversteer anywhere near what people talk about. I think this is a carry over from the old air cooled days. I’ve done it a few time at the track and unless you are really ham handed, it is very controllable.

The diameter on the engine side is essentially the same, the RSS drop right in, same hardware can be used as well. If you look closely there is a ridge on the lower side of the mounting flange that is the same diameter as OEM.
I haven't noticed any significant changes in vibration

Replaced the original draped seat covers with a pair from lseat.com.
I also painted some of the center console to better pull together the different colors of gray in the interior.
Despite how it looks in the pictures below, outside in daylight in person it looks really good. The wrinklles are disappearing already and I'll give a full update in a few weeks.
Knocked out my first oil change on the 996 using an LN Engineering oil change bundle... now equipped with DT40, spin on filter adapter w/NAPA 1042 filter and FilterMag, and LN magnetic drain plug. Inspected the oil and filter for any debris, thankfully came up very clean (albeit only ~700 miles/6 months on each) but sent over a sample to SpeeDiagnostix for a UOA (never been so nervous for ANY type of test results!! ).
Also threw in some Driven Racing Fuel Defender and Booster for kicks. Topped off the occasion with hitting my first XX,996 interval while taking her out for a late night fill up/oil level check.
How was the install? I ordered some from lseats as well and I am considering trying to tackle the install on my own. I've also heard that after install, let them sit in the sun for sometime and they tighten up nicely. Thanks!
