I bought a used smarttop module for our cab and read one of its features was bypassing the need of the ebrake to be engaged. Up until that point I was not aware that was required to operate the top.
Replaced the hood strut. For my vehicles, seems like the year of the strut. I had to replace liftgate struts last month on other vehicle and hood struts on a third vehicle earlier this year.
I guess the water pump took a few hours. Hard to say exactly since I was working on the other items too. On the 99, one of the bolts is hard to get off and reinstall. Half the time is spent figuring out which combination of swivels and extensions to use.
it’s certainly a DIY if you have the tools and the 101 projects book as a guide. I’m no mechanic BTW.
Lead 16 cars through the famous "twisted sisters" run through the Texas Hill Country. We were one group of three, 48 cars total. Had a great time, covered 250 miles! Got LOTS of bugs and grime all over the car, now I get to wash it!
I did it about 10 years ago and still think it was a great mod.
Mea culpa and Thank you wyovino for posting the DIY for 996. Did you do also the e-brake modification by grounding the Brown/Yellow or just cut the GREY/ PINK wire?
...and i only got one side done. It took a while to get the muffler off, but there was no way i was going to try without doing it. I have a clanking noise on the right side. With a stethoscope it doesnt sound any different anywhere on the engine (well, the left side is quiter). Both my son and i were sure it was external, so i ran it without the serpentine belt, no difference. The exhaust seemed pretty solid everywhere, and the noise was in time with the engine so its really worrisome.
then i went to take the three nuts of the muffler bracket, and there was only one. The other two studs were sheared off. Thats a definite possible source of the noise.. I got stainless bolts and nuts to replace the two. Unfortunately i didnt quite get it back together today because, well, i can only think of one job more frustrating than putting the number four coil back and connecting it.that was putting a speed sensor on a 944 bell housing. You guys that do plugs without removing the muffler are superstars. It took forever to get it plugged back in. So i have to wait until morning to get the muffler back in and cross my fingers that it was the clanging. I also noticed the linkage for the PSE was stuck and wondered if that would let the valve flap back and forth. I think the vaccuum line was connected and just pulled off, because the inlet was clean.

I only cut the Speed sensor (Grey/Pink) wire. I like the fact the you need to pull the e-brake up one notch in order to engage the top. It prevents accidentally opening it when you shouldn't.
