I was impressed especially for the price. I just made sure I lubed everything that moved really well.
i think it's a total clone of the B&M shifter

dporto what shop on LI do you recommend? I used m-chanics in Mineola (formerly Lynbrook) for my M3 and they also work on Porsches. They do great work but charge accordingly.

Southshore Performance in Freeport is considered to be one of the best, There are several in Huntington that are supposed to be good - I haven't used any of them as they're far away and I do most of my work myself (except for FSI 3.8 engine build). I've gone to the local Porsche dealer for a few inspections, and they've broken something unrelated to the inspection 2 times out of three being there. I've also had some alignment work done at another shop I won't mention... I don't know if this is helpful or not - I think you can tell I'm highly skeptical of shops. Most any shop that's worthwhile is going to charge around $150/hr. - which is fair if they're really good... (the Dealer gets $180 and I don't think they're very good...).

If you install without the tool, all you have to do is count/mark the number of screw threads and reinsert into the new shifter at the same thread point. Pretty easy... the second time I installed one I had the tool. All the tool does is demobilize the shifter and makes it a bit easier to insert the threaded cable in to place, so you don't totally need the tool.

I've installed new shifter assembly with the centering tool and without.

Lifted hardtop up to rafters to store. $8 Home Depot ratcheting pulley has no mechanical advantage when lifting and plunges when trying to lower, will be replaced by $23 Harbor Freight winch that looks like will raise and lower safely and easily.

I think I have a knockoff in my car too... installed by the PO. I slightly modified it to tighten up the tolerances and put loctite on the bolt that holds the shift lever in the housing (the nut backed out on me an fell off while I was driving!). I really like it. One day I'll get a Numeric shifter and cables, but for now, I'm happy with the cheapo short shifter. It's much better than my 997.2's stock shifter was.

Prior to the Matte casper clear being applied the bronze chrome looks like this:
And you can see the full bronze chrome plus matte casper clear in the picture you referenced and below. As the matte requires two stages it was a little more money but it came out exactly how I wanted. When they sent me the picture of the chrome bronze alone above, I was almost a little torn as I really thought it looked nice. But, I'm glad I stuck with the original plan.

Finally replaced decklid struts. They were shot when I got the car. Easiest repair ever and very satisfying😁
Also installed battery maintainer with cigarette lighter adapter. I’m very happy with it.
