Previous oil was put in at a Porsche dealer, and I didn't think to ask what brand and weight! I asked on this forum a few times and no answer has yet been provided.
Oil Porsche currently sells for 996 is 5W-50. They know much more than anyone else what's best for these engines so unless I hear a good reason otherwise I will go with Porsche's implicit recommendation.
The above oil is on Porsche USA's website right now.

Really? They're the one's who were recommending 10 - 15k mi. oil changes too... I'm not saying that their "classic oil" is necessarily bad, I just have a feeling you're paying a premium for those cool cans and not the protection of your engine.

I replaced the oil pressure switch on my 02 996. It took me a bit to get the crows foot and extension set up to fit onto the nut, but once I figured that out it came right off. I had visions of dropping the crush washer when trying to install the new sensor, but luckily it was tight enough on the threads to not move.
On start up the oil pressure gauge hovers near 5 but did not peg at 5 like before. When up to temp the gauge read around 3 bar when driving at 2.5k on the tach where before it was up and sometimes over 4 bar. So far, no more warnings from the computer that the car has 0 oil pressure.
Next project is to remove the front bumper and clean the radiators.

Drove it and called my indie to bleed/flush my brake fluid because the pedal "feels" too soft.
Don't know when the brake lines were last bled/flushed so that's the 1st thing that I'll do to see if it improves things. If not, I already had a set of Akebono pads and Brembo rotors on my "to buy list" I'll have my Indy shop install if the bleed/flush has no noticeable effect.
Part of the problem w/the "feel" of brakes may also be due to the heavy aftermarket 19" wheels and POS Nexen tires that came w/the car which need to be changed too (primarily to fix the handling) but I believe in taking small incremental and less expensive steps in addressing a problem. Brake bleed/flush 1st, brake pad/rotor change, next and wheel/tire change last. Looking at about $4-5k for the works and am in no rush to spend that much on the car right now.

Not sure where I should post this and don't think an entire thread is necessary but I just got my car back from my local Porsche indie shop and looks like my AOS and RMS need to be replaced. They also recommend fixing my first gear issue. The previous owner had the IMS retro kit done so may not need one (according to the mechanic he has not seen a LN IMS fail) So with that said, does a repair estimate of about $4,500 sound reasonable to you guys?

New 996 owner in the last few months. Working my way in to some improvements and upgrades. So far minor stuff, a Rennline phone mount, repaired a loose sunroof button, replaced air filter, tried the Helmholtz delete (no real noticeable change), and ordered the parts to overhaul front control arms, tie rods, and bushings etc. Also had a loose accelerator pedal (side to side wobble) so thought I had the infamous broken hinge. Took it apart and installed the Rennline hinge. Couldn't find anything wrong with it, but replaced anyway and the wobble has gone. Took some work to get the hinge on though, didn't fit as expected.
