1.- 90 Miles Highway drive to nowhere with the top down....(wife and I just got in the car and drove 45 miles thru several highways.....and then just turned back home)
2.- Oil change and filter when got home
3.- Washed the car
Interesting, I think someone else said their set was slightly off. Getting any codes?
They fit fine. I just made sure I installed them like one is supposed to install exhaust components...….don't tighten stuff up until it's all in place.
No codes...….however I have my O2 sensor readings programmed out of my ECU, so I don't know if they'd throw a code or not. I had them turned off when I was running cat by-pass pipes.
Today was the day I was finally going to swap out brake pads but it somehow turned into a long drive around the beaches and bays instead.
The 996 is in the garage but I do all my car work on the back patio or side driveway. Since I don't like starting a car and then shutting it back off after driving a few yards, I usually go for a 20-30 jaunt to warm everything up. Today was so nice, I just didn't want to go home. When I finally did get home I would have had to still wait for the brakes to cool off and I still needed to wash my bathrobe and flip-flops before work tomorrow so brake pads had to wait again.
Heavy police presence along Sunset Cliffs but everyone seemed to be behaving social distancing-wise.
Well, everyone except this guy that you can see next to where my left ear would be. He was getting cuffed/arrested but for what, I don't know.
Random guy giving the car a thumbs up when I was turning on to Shelter Island Drive.
Saw quite a few P-cars. Four Boxsters, and two '80s vintage cabriolets, all with the tops down.
I saw this guy on Harbor Drive in a newer model but couldn't make out the year before I bailed out to Nimitz Blvd.
On Nimitz, there was a 996 coming at me from the other direction and I waved but I was going too fast to tell if they waved back. It was Arctic Silver with factory load bars on the roof. Maybe a member here?
So when I got home, I decided to work on the other 996. Unfortunately when I ordered the kit, I forgot to also order glue. Until the glue gets here, It looks like I can use the template to cut out the carpet pieces and mount the tires to the wheels and that's about it.
Our first oil change today, 10 months and 7300 miles since Porsche serviced it. Mobil 1 5W-50 and genuine Porsche filter, housing, plug, crush washer, and oil cap. Put 8oz in housing to preoil, and almost 9 qts to just over half point on dipstick. I think half point on dipstick the ideal fill level to minimize both oil starvation and engine smoking. Plug and housing torqued to 35 and 19 ft lbs, zero drips.
Mobil 1 5W-50 is Porsche A40 approved, is the weight Porsche currently sells and presumably they have determined is best for 996 engines, is economical when on sale, and its heavier weight hopefully will reduce bore scoring. Will see if oil pressure and fuel economy differs from what Porsche dealer previously installed.
Liftbars, canopy, record player, and helpers make working on vehicle a pleasure.
No metal particles on filter, a few soft rubbery black pieces, these are very flexible I don't think they are plastic. Maybe a gasket material? But I think this engine is totally stock and never opened up.

I'm seriously jealous of your tan interior. The one thing I didn't get but wanted on mine. The kid looks adorable too.

Nice car!
I would highly recommend searching the forum to find info, then switching to Driven DT-40 oil. In a nutshell, it was specifically designed by Flat-six innovations, along with Joe Gibbs oil, for our 996's. I'll leave the details to your searches...

Thought this might have been me, but then I see you are probably in Cali. I’m in LA (Lower Alabama)! LOL

Finally finished buffing and polishing, gave it a quick wash, and put in my new litronic headlights I picked up a few weeks ago. Then off for a nice drive
