What did you do to your 996 today?

Finally got a chance to get out of the house and run an errand...and stopped on the way back at one of my favorite photo locations 1/4 mile from my house.
Here are some better pictures of my new wheels and the car in general:

They're a pain to photograph.
You need lots of light, or else it is a black blob.
I've had silver wheels powder coated before for my BMW 135i, but then decided they were too hard to photograph.
I prefer almost any other color, but I couldn't pass these up.
They only had 1000 miles on them and the offer was too good to refuse!
I've been thinking I might Plastidip them, but now the black is starting to grow on me so I doubt I'll change them.
I'll just have to make sure there's lots of daylight when I take photos.
I have a black monochrome front Porsche badge...hmmm....

Took my 996 to the body shop to get the insurance estimate to replace the blown-out driver's window and resultant paint damage from a drive yesterday. A passing car picked up a rock that totally blew out my window, glass everywhere inside, a number of dings in the paint on the outside door, rear quarter panel, clamshell, and spoiler. And maybe more when they clean the car and look more closely. And remove the door card and clean out the glass. And remove the drivers/passenger seats to clean up glass pieces. Thank goodness for safety glass!
At least the drive was great fun, except for the massive lightning and rain storm that cut the trip short. Also learned that my rear tires are worn down to the point where hydroplaning can, and will, occur in a heavy downpour..
Crazy weather. From 100+F to 59F back to 110F in 45 minutes of driving.m Such is life in the N AZ mountains.

Been waiting to post this for an effin week.
Today - I finished the UAOS install. For me, the AOS portion of the install was miserable. The U part was not too bad and more an exercise in hose and cable routing than difficult.
Felt good to put the motor back on its mounts.
Tomorrow I will do a nut and bolt once over and see how she works.

Thanks Aaron ! Should be good for 9/1. Looking forward to it.
ETA... UAOS stuff done - car is back on the ground and the hood is closed.... for now ! 15 mile test loop yesterday went well and the car is driving great. Will take it on a rip tonight and then wash all the oily fingerprints off her.
Gotta send a big shoutout to Skip (Porschetech - UAOS creator) he has been really helpful throughout the process of getting the UAOS install done and some trouble shooting on my particular setup.
Thank you Skip !

I have an extra filter and will probably do one more of the cartridge style before making the switch to the screw type. Admitting to using channelocks to tighten the plastic housing... No leaks there, though some elsewhere I've been too busy today to jack it up and wipe down the leaks plus add dye to see where its coming from. I'll get to it. It's running well and I'm enjoying it.

Hadn't diven the 2000 C4 Cab for about 2 weeks and was itching to do so.
The sky looked relatively clean at the start but then got really BAD. Drove about a 100 mile loop w/the top down between Carquinez Straight to Livermore to San Ramon and back via Vasco/580/680/4. Wore a N95 equivalent mask the whole way.
Checked the mask filter when I got home and it was visibily GRAY. The filter did what it was supposed to do was block pollutants but the visual confirmation of how BAD the pollution due to the fires in the Bay Area was a reminder that it is now just as important to wear a mask for pollution protect as it is to avoid speading/catching C-19.
For anyone who is looking for a better mask, I highly recommend the O2 Canada that I use. Lots of pros to it and no cons. It uses an N95 equivalent filter, has a hard plaster shell that's easily to clean, uses medical grade silicon to seal the mask to the face, soft rubber ear straps that are very comfotable and has an adjustable neck strap that allows you to hang the mask from your neck when not in use.
See: https://o2canada.com/
Actually designed for use to filter out smog pollutants but also relatively effective for C-19. A little expensive but you get what you pay for. Far better than cloth or surgical masks, neck gaiters, banadanas or whatever, except for N95 masks (w/o vents) that are very effective but inconvenient to put on/take off and we are being "shamed' for buying any because doing so supposedly will make fewer available to medical and other essential health personnel.
The O2 Canada mask is the answer to these problems.
Disclaimer: I have NO financial interest in O2 Canada and am only a consumer of their products.

Ever since I had the car it bothered me that there was cloth like tape hanging out of the seam between the A Pillar cover and the dash, but was too lazy to do anything about it. The last few days a wire was starting to slide out of the windshield header trim panel, and I noticed a gap in between that panel and the windshield. I decided to deal with both issues today. I removed the screws for the sun visor and was able to pull the wire out. I was surprised to see a telephone like wire with a RJ11 connector. I then removed the a pillar trim and the wire continued to there. I then removed the lower kick panel and there is were the wire terminated, and was connected to a small box that was tapped into one of the fuses in the fuse box. I never noticed that there was a wire coming from the fuse box where the wire was wrapped around the fuse blade to tap for power. Once I removed the device and associated wires, I fixed the cloth tape and put everything back together. Good as new now!
Here is a photo of what I found. I am guessing this is for a radar detector or a hands free bluetooth device. It has two RJ11 plugs named Accessory and Main Unit and has a power line and a ground line. If anyone know what it is or wants it, let me know.

Evening - wash and 10QTS of XP9 and new air filter.
I'll get the oil level finalized tomorrow and the car is ready for next track day 9/1.
And that completes this round of maint - UAOS, air filter, serp belt, oil and filter and nut and bolt on 4 corners.
