Spent some time at my Porsche dealer today. They showed me nationwide allocations for a variety of cars. Allocations for new Porsches are really scarce. The main market is for used cars, and the demand for them is high, but starting to drop. We're looking at buying a 991 Targa 4S which the dealer is underwater on by about $17K.

We also visited the Merc dealer this morning. They recently sold a GLE63 suv for about $20K over MSRP (rich lady), but they've also had an SL63 sitting in the showroom for months, and were willing to sell it for me for well under MSRP. Unfortunately, I test drove it and found it be quite inferior to the 911 as a driver's car.

And it was obvious from his demeanor that if I said $50,000 over I would likely have a GT3 on the way now. I am a good long term customer but at the same time I never asked for a GT3 allocation. This suggests that this dealer has run out of buyers willing to pay a large premium for an allocation.

The problem with the GT3 is the car is sort of useless - too pretty and expensive to drive on a track and too uncomfortable to drive for any longer distance on the road. Great for impressing the other members of your PCA Region at cars and coffee of course.

Plus the risk of losing $50,000 to $100,000 for a car that I would almost surely decide to sell 2,000 to 3,000 miles after I put it in my garage is a costly sports car status symbol.

the interior is identical to my son’s new base Carrera that cost him $110,000..

min fact ai am trading my 2022 GT4 with 2,500 miles into a dealer for their first allocation of the 911–T - and excited about having fun in this new driver’s model on country roads and mountain roads and the difference in hp and even suspension will not matter at all.

most of us drive legal fun roads more than on a Dedicated Track and those friends that drive on Track religiously buy an old Cayman or 911 and best the hell out of it and enjoy every minute driving without worrying about Rick chips in their $24,000 PTS+ paint job.
Good on you for buying cars that suit your use.

I love my 991 GT3 for the track, but don't enjoy driving it on the road - too fast when wound up, and lacks low to mid range torque.

I test drove a 991 Turbo S cab today and loved it as a road car - calm when you want it to be, brutal acceleration when you want it. Main thing holding me back from buying it is the yellow gauges, plus my wife is a bit scared of the car.

And many of us have the opposite view of the GT3. I have 8k miles on mine with at least 40% on track. Far from useless in my view and a ton more fun than the GT4 I had before.

just fyi - car forums are full of people who give all types of reasons to not buy a car when the car they currently have is way , way below the buying price of the car they don’t want or can’t buy 🤫. I’m not sure why they always feel the need to interject into threads of why they won’t buy a particular car and some constantly do it , over and over again . 🤷‍♂️

Yep. It’s the equivalent of “I used to argue a lot when I was a kid. People always said I should go to law school, but I decided to work at Burger King instead”.

I don’t quite agree. I was offered a winged GT3 in November 2021 for $50k ADM, zero buyer history, no relationship with dealer. I was on their list for a GTS, though.

And to say a GT3 is useless, I don’t quite get. Many people do track it, but they have more means than the folks you’re referring to that just drive to Cars and Coffee. A lot of Mclaren owners track, and their cars cost double.

I think it’s just a general statement, like I’m sure some clown has already said, “I’ve turned down an allocation for a 2023 GT3RS because I can’t stand centerlocks.” Reality is, there was never an opportunity for one, allocation or means.

Yeah, spectrum of people who buy these cars is pretty wide. I know a guy who bought a used RS, and it cost more than his house. At the other end of the spectrum, I had a student who had a 991 GT3 and was super rich, flew to track events in his private plane; given his circumstances and goals, on my advice he bought a new 991 cup car for DE (faster and safer).

Does anyone know what ADM the ruby red touring in San Diego sold for? I know they were asking $80k and it was sitting.

agreed, those two bidders with a hilariously suspect history were just getting the bid close to the reserve hoping a sucker would show up and close the deal for the seller

there’s so much funny business on bat you wouldn’t believe it. This stuff never happens on carsandbids. Id love to here Doug demuros take on bat shill bidding lol

Because I know I can put in shill bids for any one of my friends who are buying a car on BAT so if I can do so can a lot of other people.
