I am fairly risk adverse as well, but at the time I was so stressed from work that I needed something to get my mind off of it. It worked out in the end because I'm no longer with that company but still have the car

Nice buy in 2020!
I should have specified that my build would be similar to yours at ~210k sticker, then add a 50k ADM. A 260k sticker would be an impressive spec.

If it was sticker I would have pulled the trigger. Considering I already have a 991 GT3 which was purchased at the bottom of the market in 2020, I am not in a rush to step into the newest.
Got it and congrats on the 2020 dip-buying!!! I was THIS close of buying a Lizard Green 3RS… but I had my “boss” object to it!!
Still regret that and my conclusion moving forward: Do not listen to your wife/SO when it comes to discretionary spending!!

Anyhow, @cwazy1 , I am also assuming that this is for a winged GT3, yes?

GTTROIS, I got you covered here is the way this goes down. Never- I mean never ask a wife's approval on a GT car purchase in advance. " never ask for permission , but instead beg forgiveness after the fact" this is basic christian ethics, sinners will be forgiven. Next as your financial advisor I will prepare substantial documentation proving because you are shrewd, financially astute etc. buying on the dip will be a profitable trade for the family portfolio. Make 20% with a multi year hold. Lastly, this entire transaction will result in a happy life AND a happy wife, saving you from divorce and saving millions in spousal property division losses! it is over top the right decision. The GT3 and Happy Wife package! of course no ADM but i will need a parsemonius fee to help you through this.....

Yep thats right, winged .2 with CPO was going for 150-160 at the time. It was a nervous purchase though. Covid worries, sight unseen, car transport, etc. Got lucky it worked out without too many surprises.

Maybe they're rich and/or didn't want to wait? Just guessing here.

If you've had your fill of the car, you might consider selling now for a nice profit. And if/when the price drops (I think it will), you could buy one again if you still want one at that time. Of course, you have to factor taxes and other expenses into the analysis.

There's also a thing where, the more expensive something is, the more someone may want it, and buying it for a high price may make them feel it's more special once they own it, along with stroking their ego because they had the financial capacity to pay such a high price for it. Dumb, but it's a thing.

Reality is that if your net worth isn't at least in the tens of millions, you either (a) can't afford to buy everything you want, or (b) you've reduced your wants to within what you can afford, or (c) you're overspending overall and will wind up reducing your net worth (some formerly rich people even go broke). I can afford to buy a lot of nice things, including any Porsche GT car with an ADM of hundreds of thousands of dollars if necessary, but I can't afford some of my wants, such as a $10 million contemporary home overlooking the ocean from a cliff in CA, and a collection of say 30-40 really nice cars with a garage that can hold them. Realizing that I can't afford everything I want in aggregate, I'm careful with what I pay for things, because I know that overpaying for something like a car means less money available to buy other things I want.

Ray Dalio says you can have anything you want, but not everything.

real current data
apologize if this was previously posted
it’s good perspective. Prices are declining, but only by 5-7% after a 25+% run up. Yes yes the knife is falling. It’s still going to be a long time before there’s 0 adm. in fact, it seems deeply unlikely until after the order book closes for 992.1, if not longer.

how many “rich” people do you know ?

the entire and I mean entire Bay Area median household price is $1.4 million .

one of the Porsche dealers around here has told their customers that 992gt3rs pricing will be market value …. They still have 25 people on their list with “market value “ pricing

One thing to consider with prices is inflation. I paid $140K for my 991 GT3 brand new in 2015, and that inflates to about $178K in today's dollars. Prices will tend to be propped up somewhat by inflation unless inflation slows to a low rate or we get some deflation. Inflation isn't just hitting at the gas pump and the grocery store, it's hitting pretty much everywhere, including these cars.
