So... Whats to stop someone from letting the dealer do the flashy tune and then taking their car to one of the many tuners that advertise here on Rennlist and having them flash an even better tune to it?

You can just define/refine your search to private party used cars, and to used car dealers selling car(s) having CPO warranty remaining...they are transferable. The CPO is 24 months....you can buy from a Porsche dealer...you just can't buy a car with Sport Chrono.

I know lots of folks may hate me for this...I had a 2015 Cayman GTS with Sport Chrono, recently sold it for whatever reason. I now have a 991.1 Carrera S lacking Sports Chrono, it just has standard (Civil) mode, and Sport. I prefer my present configuration over the Sport Chrono that I had on the 2015 Cayman GTS. I don't think I need it. I am perfectly happy with what I have...Sport Chrono does offer the Launch Mode....something I would never use...I can just see the PDK cringing in this mode....

The test, drive Carrera/Carrera S models with and without Sport Chrono. The problem is, few dealers or private parties are going to want you to stomp on the accelerator,

I don’t believe this is accurate. CPO is only transferred if you buy from a Porsche dealer or private party.

Well its kinda too late..I put 10k deposit on a 2012.1 c2s with sports chrono... so guess either I get my money back and buy elsewhere or wait.. waiting seems like the right approach for now as I got a good deal.. 89k for a car with 39k km..

Recently brought my 2015 991.1 C4 GTS in for service and asked about my car specifically...they input VIN and nothing came back...so did the regular interim service and off I went 🤷‍♂️💯☑️. Regardless, I do hope this gets cleared up soon...

Google it, here we see the Caution on CPO warranty transfer. So Caveat Emptor applies once again...do your research and homework. I wasn't aware of this stipulation *** until I Googled it today. So for those wanting to buy a used Porsche with remaining CPO coverage, DO NOY BUY IT FROM A NON-PORSCHE DEALER.

Pre-owned car warranty - warranty from Porsche Approved ...

https://www.porsche.com › porscheapproved › features

*** "If this vehicle is traded to a non-authorized Porsche dealer or broker for resale purposes, the Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty is void."

If your GTS is PDK, it is affected. The VIN is not at the dealer database as part of the no sale order as it is not for sale at a Porsche Dealership.

One big difference between SC on a cayman vs 991 is that the 991 has dynamic engine mounts. This is really the only valuable things SC adds IMO.

Good point....Exactly, dynamic engine mounts....I didn't have them on the Cayman GTS...these are undoubtably useful, but when they fail, could be expensive to replace.

981 Caymans with sport chrono also have dynamic engine mounts.

Interesting, on further research it seems they use the same part but it's unclear how it fully functions.

Official quote from 981 SC option:
The optional Sport Chrono Package uses dynamic transmission mounts. This electronically controlled system minimizes the oscillations and vibrations of the entire drivetrain, especially the engine.
By adapting stiffness and damping characteristics to changes in driving style and road surface conditions, the dynamic transmission mounts combine the benefits that otherwise distinguish hard and soft transmission mounting arrangements.
A conventional hard transmission mounting delivers optimal dynamic performance because it offers a high degree of handling precision. Typical soft transmission mounts, on the other hand, minimize oscillations and vibrations.
While comfort is improved on uneven road surfaces, this comes at the expense of dynamic performance. With the dynamic transmission mounts, there’s no compromise between permanently hard
or soft mounting: The system decides.
Planet 9 forum editorialized explanation:
It's one of those half-a$$ options I don't understand. Obviously Porsche didn't want to spend any time making it work on the 981s, so just transferred what could be used from the 991, and it was their engine mounts. Since the drivetrain is backwards on the 991, and to the rear, only the engine mounts from the 991 could be used on the 981, and just on the transmission. I personally think it's useless to just have the transmission dynamic mounts, but guess Porsche wanted to justify their outrageous sport-chrono package more that way. That feature was at the bottom of my expectations.
But the official blurb reads almost the same as the dynamic engine mounts
Dynamic engine mounts are also part of the Sport Chrono Package. The electronically controlled system minimises the perceptible oscillations and vibrations of the entire drivetrain, particularly the engine, and combines the benefits of a hard or soft engine mounting arrangement. In short, it enhances both driving stability and driving comfort.

Great information...so I did have some dynamic mounts on the 981 Cayman GTS...I know I don't have them now on my non-Sport Chrono 991.1. I am taking the latest car to the track soon...I had quite a few laps there with the 981...perhaps there will be a performance contrast.

So what happens after this settlement is over and hypothetically Porsche looses? Anyone know?
