I was thinking more of the PR backlash among the enthusiast community. It wouldn't take more than a loud, vocal few to make this messy for Porsche. But I also agree that most buyers/drivers will never care or notice.

Chatted with my Porsche Tech yesterday.

They know there's a Recall coming but don't know quite yet what it changes when performed.

It would be nice if the update changes the shift points for Sport + so it's actually useable in auto mode for normal driving so it's not redlining every shift.

The car already has two modes for normal driving in auto, Normal and Sport.

Yeah, the whole point of Sport+ (as far as I'm concerned) is to be a "track focused" mode that is always putting the car right in the power band based on the sensors of the car.

I too called my local Porsche dealer and they just have the notice, they don't know of anyone doing the update yet. I may be interested in doing it, but I need to re-immerse myself into pre-update behaviors before doing the update.

.. Yeah, sport+ is not intended for street use, particularly in automatic mode.

Seems that may no longer be the case after the “fix”.

As someone who has gone through the dieselgate saga, I would be cautious about what Porsche says about any software fixes. It is their corporate job to make it look like as if nothing significant will happen. Yes, right now everyone is saying it only affects Sports+, but IMHO, all software is interconnected. In dieselgate, there were compromises made in both the engine software and in the transmission software. Hope whoever wants to be the first tester to report back here as to the driving dynamics in the other modes

my thoughts exactly. we know near nothing at this point.

so it took an entire year to sort out rpm shift points in sport+ mode?? hmmmm?? alrighty then!

if this is in fact the only thing changed, i'd be fine with it. don't track thus VERY rarely use sport+. highly doubt this is all of it though. would be willing to bet it isn't. this story is just beginning imho. would be happy/thrilled to be wrong

since my car is just out of Porsche original and CPO warranty, I feel I have nothing to gain from the fix.

I have decided to stick with my Cobb Tune, no point getting the "fix" only to come home and re-flash with Cobb

I agree 100%, mine is out of warranty (except my 3rd party extended wty.) also and I have the COBB tune, so why would I let them touch it? I wouldn't.

Just made an appointment in 13 days with Porsche Austin to take care of this recall--DME and transmission control unit reprogramming -- for my 991.1 C2S. Will let you know how it goes. Interestingly my 987.2 BS has no such recall with SC. BTW, no loaner car for a very long time. After March, I gave up on it.
