The last RS was only 15 hp, with a host of other goodies, shorter gearing, more tire, better suspension, buckets standard, etc. that was the 3.8. The RS was a value compared to a GT3. If Porsche goes 4 liter and a similar route, it'll be worth it. You'll feel the added torque of the 4 liter and notice when you pull on a GT3 having 25 -45 more ponies with 75-100 less lbs of heft. That's not even mentioning all the suspension improvements, aero and contact patch.

Bold graphics are free.

Really don't care about graphics or HP.
Too bad its the last 991.1 before the face lift but that's no different than before. They will fix what needs fixing and introduce the 991.2RS in 3 years. Only......This time it may be a Turbo and called the GT2RS.

4.0 is nice but doesn't really matter, I'd gladly pay less and have a 3.8.
But it must be lighter, faster, hopefully re-geared, more down force, more aggressive LSD or whatever electronic PTV gizmo does the same thing...

No CL or RWS would also be nice but whatever. I'm over it.
Porsche saved the day because if you cant deal with it Porsche built you a very stunning, exciting 997 GT3 replacement in the form of the 400HP Cayman GT4, 6 speed, 5 lug, no RWS....

I had to drive it myself, but also getting more and more first hand thumbs up confirming the GT3 is a thrill ride and its better, this is better turned to 11, like all past RS.

I just want to pick it up at the factory early spring, do we dare to guess when GT3 production stops and would that mean the RS production starts? If it arrives too late, I may have to stick a GT4 or AMG GT order in between....

With only 25hp more or not (could be that up to 50), it is going to be far more hardcore and capable on a road course. If someone only wants the big splashy power number, it's not going to satisfy (707hp Chrysler does that for way less money). It's going to be by far the fastest normally aspirated non-hybrid Porsche for the street (including Carrera GT that cost $440k not long ago), on a road course. Price expected to be $50k more than GT3, not $60k.

Seems pretty clear it's a 4.0L from everything I've heard. If it's a 3.8L, where are they going to find >25hp and make it reliable? It would need to rev to nearly 10k...

Talked to my guy at Porsche dealer. He's been with Porsche longer than anyone than I've ever known and he is absolutely an excellent and reliable guy.

1) He has not heard anything about GT3 RS release. Whether it's Geneva or not, he said he does not know. If he does not know, I don't believe anyone knows. I told him I am going to Geneva already (tickets and all done); he said "take pictures for me!!" (Being sarcastic) If not Geneva, we are left with Paris or Frankfurt; if released this year.

2) He said Porsche could be fooling around with other mechanisms of adding power in this car; things like KERS or eMotors. I don't think he meant this as confirmed news; but he just mentioned it.

I am going to Geneva anyways. The best car show on the planet and a nice place to spend a few days anyways. I will take pictures!!

The RS is always a more focused hard core track car. Just because it may only see 25 hp should not be an issue. It will certainly see more torque, as well as, even quicker shifts. Add more aero for down force, retuned suspension, and a lighter car and they will deliver as Porsche always does.

Porsche will deliver a better and faster track car although it may offer no advantages over the GT3 on the street. But is not that the point of the RS??!!

I think Porsche, like everybody else is going with smaller engines with turbos across the board.
