It is possible that Porsche decided after the fires and subsequent delay to bag the original RS plan and introduce what would have been the 991.2 GT3 engine in the 991 RS. There would be no new development or even engineering, just a decision to advance the timetable based on a combination of the new emissions requirements and the GT3 engine failure delay. We'll know soon enough

He had earlier explained that the new 911 GT3 RS, which will be launched in March at the Geneva show, features an all-new very powerful naturally aspirated engine. A version of that engine, with turbos but less power, strangely, will be what's in the facelifted 911s in 2016

My take on this comment is that the engine is all new for the RS, relative to the previous RS engine, and that the facelifted 2016 911's will get a version of the revised 91A that is in the GT3 and will be in the RS, except with turbos. I guess we'll see....

I am still convinced that any thing new is sitting now in our cars. I think the 991 GT3 engine is one of the best ever NA manufactured. This has been stated by some of the best Experts/Professionals in the automotive industry and, I agree, whole heartedly. And it is not because I own one

"GT3 RS is a bigger jump from the GT3 than there was in the 997-generation GT3 to GT3 RS"

But if any either Small Electric aid system added in the new RS then My GT3 Will
Increase value day after day

WHATEVER Car RS WILL BE
My GT3 or RS WILL BE the Apex

The 991 RS engine is the one from the 991 GT3 but with various new "hardware elements" inside. This probably allows Mr. Hatz to make the comment about a "new engine".

Source: Very reliable (again)

^ And I believe you because it makes complete sense. If you are going to squeeze more HP out of this engine you would need enhance hardware ect

I believe one of these RS "hardware elements" is already in the 991 GT3 - the rod connecting fastener taken from the larger capacity RS. However PAG will neither confirm or deny. The poor wording of Mr Hatz statement had created confusion. The RS in this generation was explained 12 months ago by AP to be a bigger difference to the GT3 than previous generations - no difference there. The GT3 has become easier to live with and the RS will be more track friendly as before thus the difference is bigger.

Not a thing has changed with the 991RS from conception trust me. It's all the same as it was always going to be as evidenced by the leaked model and tyre sizes months ago. The only thing that changed is that halting GT3 production 6 months put the RS launch back that is all. Everything else remains the same. No KERs no engine re design, no turbo. This thread has got a bit carried away. first week of March can't come around soon enough....

I wish Porsche made a better showing at the Chicago Show. It is not a small show but I do not think they consider it major show for them. Yes, they have a presence but I wish they would do more because it is a big market for them

Perhaps we've given the phrase "lost in translation" a literal definition with so much speculation on Hatz's statement.
