Really just personal preference. I like the looks of the 991 better, cleaner. I feel the ride is better on the 991, less darty. On the track (which I don’t do) I’m sure the 992 would be leaps and bounds above the 991, but not on the street. The 992 was much stiffer, sort of like my 991.2 RS was. Wasn’t a fan of the 21 inch wheels on the rear, I had 2 RS’s and reminded me of them. The 911 is more go cart like and feels lower to the ground. The steering on the 992 was probably too good, sort of felt artificial compared to the 991 to me. And I much prefer the simplicity of the gauges and infotainment system in the 991. And there are little things like the door handles that I wasn’t a fan of on the new one. I know my opinions are purely subjective and others may have different ones. I’m just happy with my 991. There is nothing wrong with the 992, but for my purposes I prefer the 991.

Thanks. many of your opinions align with mine. I really think Porsche nailed the exterior design of the 991.2 GT3, winged or not. The interior is still similar to the classic air cooled cars. And I sold my 997.2 GT3 years ago as it was just too stiff for the road,

I had a 997.1 GT3 for over 8 years. Loved that car, sold it to get a 991.1 RS. I kind of regretted that decision. After getting my 991.2 RS I missed the manual even more. Was happy to sell that and get my 991 Touring. It reminds me of my 997, just more refined and much lighter clutch. I think the 991 is the sweet spot.

I share a LOT of the opinions you do as well, you really need to test drive a 718 gt4 manual.

I like it WAY more than my 991.2 rs I had and it is leaps and bounds better than the 997.1 gt3 we had for 7 years from new. Just a way better version than the 997 gt3 imo, almost identical size, power, weight etc. just so much more tossable yet likes to be driven smoothly

I think the greatest Porsche ever made would be a gt4rs with a manual, and I saw Doug Demuro mention something similar which I would completely agree with. I would take that over a 11 gt3rs 4.0 or a 911r.....I mean the chassis is just the most "fun" I've ever experienced in a Porsche next to a 993.

The only more fun porsche I could think of being built would be an N/A 993 Carrera S with the mezger...that would be amazing lol

My son had a GT4, great car but I prefer my 911. The 718 GT4 doesn’t have a GT engine and I think that is a major shortfall. My friend is taking delivery of his GT4 RS and I will have an opportunity to drive it. Would be amazing with a manual but doesn’t look like that will happen. For me I’m more than happy with my car and I don’t see replacing it anytime soon. As far as my opinions I was asked to elaborate as to why I chose to keep my 991 Touring over my 992. I know just my opinions for whatever they are worth. I would never rely on what someone else says to decide what car I should own.

Wow, that’s an endorsement. I was on the list for a 992 GT3, but the 991.2 just screams classic to me. I’m actually happy it’s turning out this way, b/c I’ve always loved the 1.2. I’m hoping to get everything buttoned down next week. It’s going to be a long couple of weeks waiting for the money to clear and car to get shipped to me.

Nice! My 993 is a keeper and it will be interesting to see how the Touring pans out. It definitely has the makings of one. The market seemed to dip for a bit but has picked up again. Like the 993, I’m sure the Touring will go through some cycles but it should remain at or above MSRP. I’m close to finalizing a deal and I’m buying a good bit above original sticker, but there are so few of these things - if you are particular about spec, condition, etc then you have to take what you can get. The rarity will help stabilize values I think.

Congrats You will love the 991.2 Touring. Every time I drive mine, I cannot believe how different it was to my non GTs 991s and my 992s I have had, it is just a very different beast, and I think very special as well. Really last of the analog, it is a keeper for me.

It flies in the face of economic theory that this much supply still expects 1.5 to 1.8x sticker.

It is also irritating that a significant portion of deliveries this year were not to enthusiasts, but to people hoping to make a quick buck - while a large number of enthusiasts and Porsche loyalists were unable to buy a car. This must hurt at some level.

Let it collapse and burn, I say.

futures arbitrage drives prices at the margin it seems. car flippers and greedy dealers are the enron of the car hobby. Would be nice to see some comeuppance, but the smart ones always get out early.
