Three weeks ago started this ....and yesterday got all this put back together and it still works! Biggest repair I have ever taken on and didn't have full faith until test drive was complete. Couldn't have done it without this forum for guidance. Gearbox was leaking badly from the grate, so that was the focus, but did a lot of the while you in there stuff. Delighted went to plan and back on the road.
that must be a fake picture.....the drive way is dry and THAT is Ireland! Slainte'

Before and After
Moved on to the front after finishing the rear. New shocks, rotors, pads, pad sensors and brake lines and of course flushed the fluid.
Took me a bit longer than the rear as there was a lot more cleaning to do. One of the previous two owners had the front wheel wells undercoated so I spent about 5 hours per side removing that stuff.

Thought it was time to strip all old metal off my Ansa sport exhaust, weld new sheet metal in and clean out it's insides, spray with heat resistant paint, plus some new badges.
Sorry bout the picture size, using a new device.

Pulled the A/C compressor from my 78; found out you can't rebuild a seized Bosch. Pulled out the hoses. Ordered Griffiths compressor/hose/dryer kit. Didn't know to pull condenser along with the dryer by removing the grill, but it didn't matter because nothing would separate it from the spindly condenser pipe. Ordered condenser. And an expansion valve. Hope that is the end of this WYAIT!

Case study in frivolity
Though I suppose it will make me smile every time I open the door.

Messed around with the vacuum assembly that goes to the brakes, valley and drivers side plenum...tightened up some clamps that had settled and had gotten loose and found that apparently I hadn't plugged the short harness properly to the side that goes to the engine and it was hanging there...fyi it acts like a vacuum leak .
Made sure the wire "clicked" this time. HA, update. I had pushed the metal frame the short harness sits in towards the engine apparently while I was slaving away cleaning shiny things...goodness.

I have mentioned before and I think have a thread out there about the electric heater valve I installed....I ran the red signal wire that would normally open an air solenoid to close the heater valve....that red wire goes now to a type 53 relay that I wired into the CE panel in unused spot #1 (early '86). I leached power from the cig. lighter and powered up fuse #3 so the relay has fused power and the valve worked a treat till the stupid ground wire came out of the terminal behind the CE panel...so I spent a couple fun hours tracing that spiderweb back ....but now the AC is really cold hehe
The design works perfectly when the wires are all connected .

Added new used tailights
thanks to @slownrusty - The originals (top) have a lot of crazing and major cracks (they look better in the pictures than they are). I clear vinyl coated them a while back to prevent moisture intrusion, and it really spruced them up, making them nice and shiny. I added the same vinyl to the latest set (which look better than they do in the pictures). Very pleased overall.
