Yes, plug and play electrically. Mechanically not quite... I had to drill out the brass insert with a 12mm drill, then fix the alternative into place as its fixing is difference.

On the Euro 16v the airbox is deep enough to take the longer length of this sensor, I'm not sure about the 85/86 S3. I think that airbox is different ? Shallower ?

Here is the drawing of the alternative sensor.
http://www.bosch.com.au/content/lang...emperature.pdf

Page 2, the existing sensor is #1 on page 2. The new sensor is #2 on the same page.

Note the thermal time constant info, the new sesnor is at least 4 times faster.

The doc also gives you the Bosch part number, or I can supply.

Thanks for your help.

Getting close to starting final assembly on my stroker motor.

Realized that I still hadn't removed the bosses in the valley yet ('85 block), but since I'm running ITB's
thought I may not have to. Did a quick mock up. Man, I love looking at this set up.
Looks like no clearance issues, the throttle linkage isn't even close. Sure is a lot of room under there!

Ken is that an alcantara shifter boot?

Here is some prep work underway - air pump is now gone... time to re-purpose the filter space. Lots of cutting, drilling, chipping and power filing later... More when its done...

I replaced every heater/cooling hose on the car and took my fuel tank in for cleaning. Hoping to have it back tomorrow or the next day. Need to get some vacuum hose and she will be ready to try and start again. Well I have to put a few other pieces back on first but I'm close.

It is Alcantara! I harvested and skinned the Alcantara myself! Actually, I got it from Jon Boyd along with the rest of the car, and just recently installed it on top of a new Lizard Shifter, and refinished the cap from brushed aluminum to the powdercoated brown you see.

Air Pump Filter Housing = Beer Bottle Holder. Or do you have a better plan? Do tell...

To night I replaced the trans line that has been leaking.
Replaced the oil and filter.

Then I had to pull it out of the garage because it has been sitting since july and was a tad dusty

I took it to the car wash, fueled her up and then went for a drive across town and back home.

Now she is clean ..er and tucked away for the night

It was just like Sex, ... I'm getting old

On the technical note:

I am not sure where I have the tune set at because I think I was trying to set it up for a long drive and economy but I cant remember.

The reason I mention this is because it does not seem to have the break the tires loose go up in smoke ***** that I know it can do and
because of the timing belt issue it is something i will have to check as well as do a compression test.

I have many tuning setting stored in the laptop but I forgot to charge it

Installed new header tank. New air filter. Filled her up and started and tested new fuel pump and fuel filter for leaks. All good! She can go on the road again. Tomorrow a quick oil change and then go for a drive!
I hope the new header tank and hose fixes my coolant loss...
